Glasgow Distillery @TweetTasting

@GlasgowDC @1770Whisky chose a @TweetTastings to launch some of their new bottlings.

Here's my thoughts and those of a few friends!

My thoughts
:

Appearance: pale gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line form small beads and fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: starts with herbal / vegetal notes, then on to melon, honey and banana. There's some interesting orchard fruit notes of stewed pears. A little shortbread and citrus note develops after some time in the glass.

Palate: thick sweet arrival with a sharp vegetal note - not pleasant... Apples, melon and lime peel follow with a little honey sweetness. There's a lot of spice here too - cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. The ABV is nicely balanced. There's quite a bit of oak on this one too - maybe too long in the Cognac? I'm usually a huge 1170 fan but this one isn't ticking my boxes sorry.

Finish: lingering oak, spice and that strange vegetal note.

My thoughts
:

Appearance: dark gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, bead up slowly and take an age to fall as slow thick oily legs.

Nose: orange zest, toffee, almonds and pear drops. There's a lovely rum and raisin ice cream note that I get on the 45% version. A little icing sugar suggest dryness and sweetness to come.

Palate: oooh this is more like it thick syrupy arrival, toffee bonbons, chewing nuts and honey. The rum & raisin and orange zest notes from the nose are back! There's some spearmint toothpaste and a lovely ginger spice!
YUMMY!

Finish: long and spicy with toffee, honey and orange notes.
YUMMY!

My thoughts
:

Appearance: dark gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line take an age to bead up and longer to fall as slow thin oily legs.

Nose: more toffee chewing nuts, honey and almonds. There's some liquorice notes and a hoppiness from the year in the beer cask. Some burnt toast notes mix with oak, sour citrus and malt.

Palate: thick spicy arrival - ginger and cinnamon to start. very drying and immediately hoppy. Huge beer influence but it isn't overpowering like some I've tried recently. There's s little sweetness + GD DNA almond and orange

Finish: lingering dry hoppiness, orange zest and cinnamon spice. Nice!

My thoughts
:

Appearance: bronze in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, bead up slowly and fall as slow thick oily legs.

Nose: the house is on fire 🚒 Huge dirty smoke notes, this could be from Ledaig, oily, rubbery and full of funk!  Bacon drizzled in maple syrup, Smoky Bacon Crisps, a little medicinal note and some lovely glacier cherries.

Palate: another thick chewy arrival (I do love high ABV drams!) immediately drying and smoky. The ABV is huge but you don't really notice it. BBQ spare ribs, almonds, raisins, cherries in dark chocolate and orange zest.

Finish: lingering dry peppery spice, smoke and BBQ sauce - yummy!

Appearance: dark gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line in the glass, take an age to bead up and eventually fall as slow thick legs.
Peated Wine cask - what's not to like?

Nose: dirty smoke like the peated but gentler, this one has some berry and fruit notes too. Honey & caramel sauce suggest sweetness. A little vanilla and toasted oak. There is still that DNA almond and orange zest here too!

Palate: a little thinner than the peated, gentler smoke but a lovely wave of hedgerow berries on the tongue. Odd cheesecake note. 50% time in Virgin Oak has added vanilla, spice & almonds, 50% in wine has berries & chocolate

Finish: lingering berry fruit, smoke and gentle spice - Yummy!
