BlindTastingOnTour : Campbeltown

The second annual #BlindTastingOnTour started with a 4.15am alarm clock, a 4.30am taxi and a 4.55am train from home to Carnforth to meet up with the rest of the gang who drove up from further south.

Our plan this year was to visit Glengyle Kilkerran distillery, do the Cadenhead's Warehouse tour, visit the Cadenhead's shop and 'The Cage' do the Springbank distillery tour and finally the Glen Scotia distillery. All these are possible with in the two days we had in the wee toon!

I'm sitting in the railway station.
Got a ticket for my destination.
On a tour of one-night stands
my suitcase and guitar in hand.
And every stop is neatly planned
for a poet and a one-man band.

After a breakfast stop at Tebay services, dawn broke and eventually we reached Scotland!

4 hours later and through to the other side of Glasgow we still had a long way to go....

But eventually we made it to Campbeltown!

We drove past the Glen Scotia distillery to our AirB&B

So after dropping off our stuff and getting our bearings we had about an hour to get to Glengyle for our first Distillery tour of the visit.

On the way to Glengyle we walked past the Glen Scotia distillery which we we're due to visit the following day.

As you can see the doors to the Mashing Room were open...

...so we had a quick peek in!

Iain McAlister the Distillery Manager popped out of the door, said hello, and asked if we had time for a dram?

How could we refuse? We'd only been in Campbeltown for 10 minutes and the wee toon's hospitality was shining through! We continued to the Distillery Shop.

There we met Hector McMurphy, Assistant Distillery Manager, who poured us a dram of 1999 Distillery Edition 006 - what a way to start a visit!

After enjoying our dram, a little chat, we said our goodbyes and looked forward to the next day when we'd be back!

Continuing on into the town we passed the former Benmore Distillery, one of around 35 closed distilleries in Campbeltown.

Next - our tour of Glengyle Kilkerran Distillery
