#BTC67 #BlindDrams Tasting Notes

These are my tasting notes and results from the Blind Tasting Consortium's 67th #BlindDrams evening.

These drams were picked by Mike @whiskywings

His theme was "World Cup Whiskies", all the drams featured maturation in casks from the finalists and winners Spain, beat losers Argentina and and the hosts, USA!

Here are my tasting notes:

Dram 1

Appearance: bronze in the Glencairn, swirls cling as a thick line, bead slowly and fall as slow thick legs.

Nose: thick treacle, vanilla custard, baked apples. There's some dried fruit notes hinting at sherry.

Palate: thick sweet arrival, toffee apple, red berries, orange zest. There's some wood spice, a little rye maybe and a little honey. This is coming across very bourbon like.

Finish: a little orange juice, lemon zest and peppery spice.
I'm thinking a 55% ABV aged bourbon? Scored a 2

Dram 2

Appearance: bronze in the Glencairn, swirls cling as a thick line, bead slowly and fall as slow thick legs.

Nose: old fashioned sweet shop, icing sugar, caramel and a little liquorice. There's some orange juice, vanilla and a little tropical fruit.

Palate: juicy arrival, full of pears, apricots and honey.  There's some strawberry, milk chocolate  and a hint of salinity. Very drying!

Finish: long juicy finish with berry and cherry hints.

I'm thinking 50% ABV sherry finished dram, scored a 3

Dram 3

Appearance: dark gold in the Glencairn, swirls cling as a thick line, bead slowly and fall as quick thin legs.

Nose: brown sugar, honey and a little treacle. Some salinity, berries and plum.

Palate: another juicy arrival, red berries, cherries and milk chocolate. There's some icing sugar dryness and a little orange juice.  There's a little LL-esq fizz on the tongue.

Finish: short and sweet, berries and cherries and dry salinity.

I'm thinking 55% ABV wine cask - Wire Works maybe? Scored a 4

Dram 4

Appearance: bronze in the Glencairn, swirls cling as a thin line, bead slowly and fall as slow thin oily legs.

Nose: very meaty, dunnage funk, thick peat smoke, honey and some orange zest. There's some tropical fruit, citrus and damp wood.

Palate: thick chewy arrival, mouthcoating, plums, dates, figs and some berries. Ginger spice. Very drying. Lemon zest and a little icing sugar.

Finish: lingering brown sugar and berries.

I'm thinking a 58% Ledaig in a sherry finish, scored a 3

Dram 5

Appearance: mid gold in the Glencairn, swirls cling as a thin line, bead slowly and fall as quick thin legs.

Nose: another meaty, smoky dram, BBQ meats, tropical fruit and a little salinity. Some dryness even on the nose.

Palate: another thick sweet arrival, honey, caramel and lots of smoke. There's black tea, smoked cheese and a little BBQ plum. This is yummy!

Finish: lingering berry notes, some citrus and a lot of dry smoke.

I'm thinking a wine cask Laphroaig at 55%, favourite of the night, scored a 4.
