Side by side: An indie Tormore flight

There's a huge fanbase for Tormore but I've not really connected with them before - the spreadsheet indicated I'd accumulated 4 samples so enough to try a side by side!

These are all from indie bottlers, let's see what they are like!

Side by side : Four Highland Park 12yos

You can find Highland Park's 12yo in most supermarkets in the UK but whilst this is matured in ex-sherry casks for me ex-bourbon is the way to go, here I'll try some in my side by side format.

The distillery 12yo verses 2 from SMWS and 1 from Cadenhead.

BlindTastingOnTour 2021 : Campbeltown

After 2 years stuck at home due to Covid the #BlindTasting team finally got back on tour with a visit to Campbeltown - the boys were back in town!

GIF by @JWBassman_

John @jwbassman_, Max @mgilberties, Andy @andy_watkinson and myself  last visited in 2019 just before Covid hit, you can read about it here, so we thought it was time we went back.

Side by side : Springbank from Cadenhead's Cage

If you've ever been to Cadenhead's shop in Campbeltown you will have had a look in The Cage, a simple wooden cupboard with chicken wire doors and a padlock - you can look but you can't touch!

You can ask them to open the doors if you have chosen a bottle to buy.

Side by side : Independent Tomintoul

Tomintoul isn't a distillery I've tried any drams from before - these two independents - a 12yo from Cadenhead and a 14yo from Chorlton are the first I've tried.

Let see how they compare side by side!

After our tour of Glengyle we went back to the distillery shop to join the queue for the Cadenhead's Warehouse Tasting - and by queue we meant 20 Swedes.....

Cadenhead's Tasmanian Investment

A chance chat with @Pop_Noir and a sample swap delivered me a little piece of Australian history courtesy of Cadenheads. At first I thought "Nice - this will be from one of those new Australian distilleries that are popping up, I've tried a few Starwards, I wonder what this is like?"

When I started to look into the history of Cradle Mountain the story got a little interesting!

Side by side: Cadenhead's 10yo Hogsheads

For this 'side by side' blog I've picked 3 Ten year old cask strength drams from Cadenhead's Small Batch range. Each of these has come from the marriage of two or more bourbon hogsheads.

WM Cadenhead's is Scotland's oldest independent bottler, founded in Aberdeen in 1842 was bought by J & A Mitchell & Co Ltd, the proprietors of Springbank Distillery in 1972.

#BlindTasting Series 5 - Review

Series 5 of #BlindTasting has recently finished and as usual I'll post a summary. This ended up being our longest series due to Christmas and pressures of work - it extended over 4 months!
This one, like all the rest, has brought up a few surprised with the five of us trying to identify 15 mystery drams through smell and taste, having #NoPreconceivedIdeas to sway our opinions.

#MiniTasting with a Super-Secret Mystery dram!

A normal run of the mill drample swap resulting in an unidentified bottle being delivered, discussions ensued and it turned out the @WhiskynStuff had sent this dram to a few of his recent drample swapers. An idea was hatched do do a simultaneous tasting and thus #MiniTasting was organised. 'Organised' might not be the right word.... thrown together might be better! We only sorted out the sample order 5 minutes before the start!.
