Virtual tasting: Three Ships

You may not of heard of @ThreeShipsSA, they are one of a number of brands of South African whisky distilled at the James Sedgwick Distillery, one you may have heard of is Bain's.

I was lucky enough to try 6 of their bottlings.

Three Ships first UK release

Unless you live in South Africa you may not of heard of the @ThreeShipsSA brand, it sits alongside @BainsWhisky in the portfolio of Distell's James Sedgwick Distillery.

A few of us were lucky enough to try a couple of samples of Three Ships last year, two 35PPM peated  Single Malts - an 8yo and 10yo - you can read my thoughts here!

After months, if not years, of hassling Distell they have finally released a Three Ships whisky in the UK, let's see what it's like!

Whisky from...? South Africa

OK hands up how many distilleries can you name in South Africa? No looking in the Malt Whisky Yearbook..... Well if, like me, you'd be hard pressed to name one.....

JUST A MINUTE - HAVEN'T WE BEEN HERE BEFORE WITH SWITZERLAND?

Ooops....

And yes actually I could name one - the James Sedgwick Distillery which distils Bain's Single Grain.

South African Twitter Tasting

I'm sure you've read my recent #FanBoy post about Bain's launching a 15yo Single Grain, the 'standard' NAS dram bring one of my favourites. Well a recent visit from the postman delivered an unexpected surprise!

Three large samples of @BainsWhisky 15yo Single Grain, @ThreeShipsSA 8yo and 10yo. A few tweets and I found out a few lucky whisky tweeters had received a similar parcel from @TheWhiskyMaker, so there was nothing else for it but to share out the samples and arrange a tasting!
