AD Rattray @TweetTasting

@ADRattrayWhisky chose a @TweetTastings to launch some of their new Cask Collection bottlings.

Here's my thoughts and those of a few friends!

My thoughts
:

Appearance: pale gold in the glass, swirls cling as a hairline crack in the glass, slowly forms beads for an inverted crown and fall as slow thick legs.

Nose: a high ABV to start the evening, 55.1% ABV singeing the nasal hairs! Orchard fruit to the fore: apples, pears and apricots. Some nutty shortbread, vanilla ice cream and a hint of dunnage funk. Loads of lemon zest and hints of spice to come!

Palate: Thick sweet arrival: honey, drying icing sugar and a little golden syrup. The orchard fruit from the nose is back - maybe turning a little tropical. Lemon zest and chocolate appear before a gentler than expected ginger spice. YUMMY!

Finish: sweet tropical fruit, lemon zest and a gentle gingery spice.

My thoughts
:

Appearance: very pale gold in the glass, swirls cling as a hairline crack in the glass, bead up slowly and fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: this reminds me of the Glenburgie from last week's @whisky_cellar TT very grain like: loads of vanilla ice cream, buttered popcorn and dry icing sugar. There's some damp grass, pine needles, raisin stuffed baked apples covered in caramel sauce

Palate: another thick sweet arrival, this time with more spice. There's toffee and honey to start, some shortbread, a little salinity, Horlicks and a huge sour grapefruit note. Apricot and icing sugar give a dryness inviting another sip. Lovely!

Finish: lingering sweet brown sugar, orchard fruit and spicy ginger. Yummy!

My thoughts
:

Appearance: light gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line in the glass, bead up immediately and fall as slow thin oily legs.

Nose: a little closed, some patience reveals vanilla custard, marzipan, pears drops and a little dunnage funk. There's a bowl of tropical fruit here and some digestive biscuits. A little lemon juice rounds things off.

Palate: thin but chewy arrival, tropical fruit: pineapple, kiwi and mango; brown sugar, chewing nuts and a huge bite of ginger spice. The ABV seems well integrated and then bites you as the liquid disappears!

Finish: lingering ginger spice, brown sugar and tropical fruit.

My thoughts
:

Appearance: dark gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, bead up slowly and fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: loads of dunnage funk to start, damp grass, a little salinity, sherry soaked dried fruit & spiced apple. Time for a #MincePie? There's a little black cherry, date & fig note - thinking of Christmas here. A little toffee to finish things off.

Palate: thick sweet arrival, full of Christmas promise: dried fruit, figs, dates, prunes & a splash of balsamic vinegar. This is YUMMY! A few more sips offer salted liquorice, brown sugar & a hint of toffee followed by a huge bite of ginger spice.

Finish: lingering Christmas fruit, Christmas spices and a little bitter oak.Yummy!

My thoughts
:

Appearance: mid gold in the glass, another sherry cask matured lacking a bit of colour, swirls cling as a hairline crack in the glass, take an age to bead up and eventually fall as slow thin oily legs.

Nose: bonfire on a beach stuff: huge salinity, peat smoke and drying seaweed point to Caol Ila but a little medicinal note suggest further to the south and west? Citrus, herbs and berries hint at a RF sherry cask but this is FF Oloroso.

Palate: thin spicy arrival, huge ABV & spice takes no prisoners. There salinity is here drying the mouth along with the peat smoke & tropical fruit notes. Milk chocolate, toffee & liquorice offer some resistance before the salinity & smoke take back control

Finish: lingering smoke, salinity and tropical fruit with a little citrus - nice!
