#BTC36 #BlindDrams Tasting Notes

These are my tasting notes and results from the Blind Tasting Consortium's 36th #BlindDrams evening.

These drams were picked by Brian @MaltMusings

My theme was Fauna and Flora where the whiskies we had tonight were indie cask strength bottlings of some of Diageo's Flora and Fauna range.

So as usual the other 27 of the Consortium worked their way through the 5 blind drams, sharing thoughts and giving a score out of 5 before they were all revealed at the end.

Dram 1

Appearance: pale gold in the glass, swirls clings as a thin line, bead up slowly and fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: stewed orchard fruit, lemon bonbons, icing sugar and a little distant bready note.

Palate: the fruit has turned all tropical: pineapple, kiwi, papaya. There's drying icing sugar and a big bite of ginger spice - nice!

Dram 2

Appearance: pale gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, form small beads and fall as sow thin oily legs.

Nose: orchard fruit, berries, a little vanilla and some brown sugar.

Palate: thick sweet arrival, honey, brown sugar and a little caramel. The fruit has again tuned tropical but with some berry and cherry hints too. Lovely ginger spice note and drying as the liquid disappears.

Dram 3

Appearance: dark gold in the glass, swirls cling as a hairline crack in the glass, take an age to bead up and eventually fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: a little musty, some dried fruit, brown sugar and vanilla. There's an interesting floral note here too.

Palate: a thick chewy arrival, toffee, brown sugar, chocolate covered chewing nuts. There's a little peppery spice, some vanilla and a little tropical fruit. Nice

Dram 4

Appearance: dark gold almost bronze in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line in the glass, take an age to bead up and fall as slow thick oily legs.

Nose: dunnage funk, berries, cherries and some dried fruit. There's a dirty oily note here too. The ABV tickles the nasal hair - can't wait to jump in!

Palate: thick chewy arrival, toffee, berries, dried fruit, prunes, dates. A gentle peppery spice but with some cinnamon and nutmeg,

Dram 5

Appearance: bronze in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line and form tiny beads which fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: musty second hand book shop, dirty oily rags, old leather jacket. Some berry notes, dried fruit and a load of toffee. There's a little citrus hidden in the background and maybe some hints of spice to come?

Palate: another sweet thick arrival -  toffee, balsamic vinegar, golden syrup. There's some prunes, dates and black cherries - a lot of oloroso going on here?
