DrivenByDrams Speyside Tour - Benromach

The first day of the DrivenByDrams gang Speyside trip had us heading for Benromach.

We passed a few distilleries on the way!

We started the day with a lovely cooked breakfast

Team photo outside the Farmhouse

Craigellachie Distillery

Macallan's new Tellytubbies Distillery

Benriach Distillery

We then made a quick stop at Glen Moray Distillery

Where a great selection of Bottle Your Owns were available...

but being 9.30am they weren't allowed us sell us any...

Just to add insult to injury Graham Coull wasn't in either...

After our disappointment we continued on to Benromach where we passed an unfortunate sign...

Where we were booked on the £75 Heritage Tour.

A disappointing priced Distillery Exclusive...

...was followed by further disappointment when we were told that no photos were allowed in the production areas.

I just don't get this - only a handful of distilleries don't allow photos but the majority do - an insurance thing maybe? Whatever the reason they should have mentioned it on the website - I wouldn't have visited if I'd known.

Benromach's Grain Bin

Benromach's Boby Mill

Benromach's 1 tonne mash tun

Benromach's Oregon Pine Washbacks

Benromach's shiny stills and spirit safe

We then went back to the distillery for a tasting, again a little disappointing as 3 of the 5 were standard core range bottlings.

Tasty drams but disappointing for £75 - not really "a range of unique and rare whiskies, personally selected by our Distillery Manager" described on the website.

The only upside was a 43yo single cask from 1975.

We also met up with a great couple from the Isle of Man @manxwhisky distillery!

After a cock-up with the taxi, he'd reversed our route details... we finally got on the road to Dunphail.
