DrivenByDrams Arran & Glasgow Tour - Day 2 (Arran Distillery)

Day 2 and the DrivenByDrams gang's Arran & Glasgow trip had us leaving Glasgow and heading for the ferry to @Arranwhisky

A lovely morning greeted us on the short drive from Glasgow down to Ardrossan...

...and the ferry to Arran!

We were first in the queue for a CalMac Scottish Breakfast!

We jumped into our pre-booked taxi van and headed north to Lochranza

This was the first time I'd seen the new extension and added washbacks.

We met with Scott, a great friend of Mark's and a few bottles were exchanged including a rather interesting old Irish one. Scott shared some of his whisky archaeology stories - really interesting!

Scott then took us into the Bothy for a welcome dram - a 28yo Arran - one of their first casks.
  • 1995 28yo Single Cask #396 (Sherry HHD)

He then led a toast to Kate Renton with a very moving set of stories about her. 😥

We got to try some Local Barley New Make Spirit.

We were then given a tour of the newly expanded distillery

As well as posing for the obligatory group photos!

We then walked over to the dunnage warehouse, taking in the beautiful scenery around the distillery.

Where we got to try 4 interesting single casks:
  • 1996 27yo Single Cask #8A (Bourbon)
  • 2010 14yo Single Cask #15/QC/104 (Quarter Cask)
  • 2017 7yo Single Cask  #VA1228 (Amontillado)
  • 2017 7yo Single Cask  #23PYO4 (Madeira)

Then it was back to the tasting room for a few more special drams:
  • 1997 12yo Icons of Arran No. 2 - The Rowan Tree
  • 1995 14yo Single Cask #210 (Sherry) (Japanese excl)
  • ???? Sherry Cask finished in Pinot Noir (Swiss excl)

Including a 1995 which Mark hadn't tried before!

A final group photo, then it was into the shop to but some cask samples and distillery exclusive bottlings!

Mark was checking for certain bottle numbers...

Then back down to Brodick for the ferry back to the mainland
