Whyte & MacKay #TweetTastings

@whyteandmackay shared four of their singe malts from their portfolio in a recent @TweetTastings

Here's my thoughts and those of a few friends!

The drams we received to try were:
  1. @tamnavulinwh White Wine Cask
  2. @jurawhisky 14yo American Rye Cask
  3. @DalmoreWhisky 21yo
  4. @FettercairnWh 28yo

My thoughts
:

Appearance: mid gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thick line and fall as quick thick legs.

Nose: freshly sliced green apples bursting with juice, barley sugars and a little honey to start. A little lemon zest, digestive biscuit and some dry cinnamon spice.

Palate: Sweet light arrival, a little honey, a little barley sugar. The apple from the nose has turned a little stewed, some dried fruit & vanilla custard join it. The citrus zest is back too, cinnamon leaves a lovely dry palate.

Finish: Cinnamon to the fore. Really dries the mouth making you take another sip!

My thoughts
:

Appearance: mid gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thick line, form beads and fall as slow thick legs.

Nose: fresh pencil shavings, damp cardboard, a little nail varnish remover. There's some gingerbread notes here, caramel apple granny and a bite of black peppery spice.

Palate: a lovely thick arrival, golden syrup and liquorice. There's walnuts, almonds and toffee. A little citrus zest, milk chocolate, a little salinity and black pepper round things off nicely.

Finish: another dry spicy finish, pepper with a little cinnamon. Lovely salted lemon note too!

My thoughts
:

Appearance: mid gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thick line, bead up and fall as slow thick oily legs.

Nose: not a sherry bomb but lots of dunnage funk, red berries, milk chocolate, dried fruit and orange zest. Black cherries and prunes offer some sweet notes.

Palate: Dry thick arrival, honey and toffee to start. Red berries: strawberries, raspberries; and dark fruit: dates, figs, prunes.  There's some blueberry jam, a little citrus zest and melting milk chocolate. A little drying, gentle spice.

Finish: A little sour citrus on the finish - grapefruit or lime?

My thoughts
:

Appearance: mid gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, bead up slowly and fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: baked apples, stuffed with raisins and honey, drizzled in vanilla custard, Tropical fruit and brown sugar add sweetness, orange zest a little zing. There's some digestive biscuit and a little salted caramel here too.

Palate: thick toffee arrival, milk chocolate, vanilla, orchard fruit, red berries, dried fruit (sherry like). Then the spice kicks in, black pepper and ginger. Juicy tropical fruit and dry sugary marzipan left on the tongue. Yummy!
