As well as distillery tours, warehouse tastings, meetings friends old and new and buying whisky there's one more thing you need to do on a whisky road trip...
At each of the distilleries we visited I bought or tried to buy a branded Glencairn, you can never have enough glassware!
If you visit Glencairn's website a single standard glass is £7, shop around and buy 6 you can get them for around £6. We paid £5.50 when buying our Blind tasting Consortium #BlindDrams branded ones in bulk. I'm sure the distilleries buy many more and get a much better price but in the Visitor's Centres the prices varied a lot.
Ardbeg told me they don't sell them, Diageo's Caol Ila and Lagavulin were the most expensive at £8 each (I guess they need to pay for their Johnnie Walker upgrade!), Bruichladdich's the cheapest at £5.
