Islay - Laphroaig Distillery

The third distillery tour and tasting on our trip was @Laphroaig

Where Marc led us on a tour and No. 1 Warehouse Tasting!

We started off with a few photos of the infamous Laphroaig Warehouse Wall!

Before starting the tour on the Malting Floors

Where we all had a go at getting a Monkey's Shoulder!

Then we went to look at the kiln which was busy smoking the barley.

You could see the smoke coming out of the Pagoda Roof

Next to the Mash Tun and Washbacks

Then out and over to the Still House

A huge pile of peat

We then went to the Filling Store where they were filling ex-bourbon casks with unpeated Laphroaig - the first time they'd ever distilled unpeated spirit!

We got to taste it - definitely unpeated! Photo: Max

Mark got to bang in the bung on the final cask!

Then down to Warehouse No. 1 for a tasting!

We got to try 3 drams which we drew from the casks.  Lovely drams but a little disappointing as 2 were ex-bourbon, would have been nice to try a sherry.

We then got to choose our favourite and fill a bottle to take home!

It was then back to the Visitor's Centre to claim our annual rent and visit our square foot of Islay!
