#BTC69 #BlindDrams Tasting Notes

These are my tasting notes and results from the Blind Tasting Consortium's 69th #BlindDrams evening.

These drams were picked by Paul @pswhisky

His theme was "Reminiscence with the Robertsons", all the drams featured distilleries that were previously owned by Edrington. The Robertson’s being the three sisters who founded Edrington in 1961. Of special interest to Paul as he works for Edrington!

Here are my tasting notes:

Dram 1

Appearance:  Pale gold in the Glencairn, swirls cling as a thin line, take a while to bead up and fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: Fresh and fruity: vanilla, apples, pears and a hint of dry peach skin. There’s a little grape must and a hint of spice.

Palate: Thick, sweet arrival: mouth coating Golden Syrup, vanilla skin, liquorice and a hint of lemon meringue. This has got some ABV. With dilution the lemon comes to the fore, a little spirity (young?) but tasty. LL CWY maybe?

Finish: Long and spicy with grapefruit, ginger and lemon. I’m thinking a young Loch Lomond 55% ABV ex-bourbon, scored a 3

Dram 2

Appearance:  Mid gold in the Glencairn, swirls cling as a thin line, form small beads and fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: Sweetcorn, orange zest and a little gingery spice to start. There’s some honey, a little vegetal note and some salinity.

Palate: Thick, sweet arrival, more high ABV: honey, tinned fruit syrup, sour grapefruit and a little Danish pastry. Some vegetal notes and a little drying icing sugar.

Finish: Short and dry with ginger and grapefruit. I’m thinking a 10yo 55% ABV cognac cask finish, scored a 1.

Dram 3

Appearance:  Bronze in the Glencairn, swirls cling as a thin line, form small beads, hang for an age and fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: Dunnage funk, furniture polish, fresh sawn wood and a little linseed oil.

Palate: Thick chewy arrival, very dry, woody, a little spice and some sour grapefruit. An unusual dram, I think it’s got some age but turned very woody. Some plum and berry notes, coconut and more wood.

Finish: Short and very dry, wood, berries and spice. I’m thinking a 10yo 48% ABV wine cask finish, scored a 3

Dram 4

Appearance:  Dark gold in the Glencairn, swirls cling as a thin line, take a while to bead up and fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: Smoky bacon crisps, plum skins and some berry notes. ABV is back up on this one. Some wet rubber and fresh tarmac notes suggesting Ledaig.

Palate: Sweet, mouth coating arrival, berry fruit, plums and dates but too much smoke. It’s just a little off – a little weird.

Finish: Short and dry, weird. I’m thinking a 12yo 50% ABV sherry finished Ledaig, scored a 3

Dram 5

Appearance:  Mid gold in the Glencairn, swirls cling as a thin line, bead up and fall as slow thick legs.

Nose: A little seaside smoke here, some orchard fruit and a little pineapple. Very dirty.

Palate: Sweet dry arrival, lots of smoke, berries and cherries. cinnamon and some ginger spice.

Finish: Short and dry with ginger spice and berries. I’m thinking a 55% ABV sherry cask finished Ledaig, scored a 3
