BTC11 #BlindDrams Tasting Notes

These are my tasting notes from the Blind Tasting Consortium's 11th #BlindDrams evening.

These drams were picked by @MaltMusings (Me!)

Dram 1

Appearance: Light gold in the glass, swirls cling as tiny beads and fall as very slow thin legs.

Nose: Loads of vanilla ice cream, a little honey and orchard fruit. Bounty Bars? Some dried pineapple notes suggesting a dry dram....

Palate: Tropical fruit, dried pineapple, bounty bars, ginger spice, the vanilla is back and a lovely stewed pear note.

Finish: Lingering creamy vanilla and black pepper. Nice - I'd have a bottle

Dram 2

Appearance: Another light gold dram, swirls cling as a fat line, bead up slowly and fall as slow thick legs.

Nose: Stewed apple and vanilla custard, someone has dropped some chocolate drops in and they are melting. Marzipan? A little citrus and a bite of ginger spice - ABV has gone up a little from Dram 1...

Palate: Thick oily arrival, ginger spice and a little black pepper. Loads of tropical fruit notes - pineapple, mango, kiwi, a little vanilla. ABV has jumped a little - YUMMY!

Dram 3

Appearance: Again light gold, swirls cling as a thin line, slowly beading up as an inverted crown giving slow thin legs.

Nose: Vanilla ice cream, hints of rum and raisin and a little metal polish note. Tropical fruit notes come through with a few swirls - pineapple, banana, kiwi.

Palate: thick oily arrival, a little maritime salt, a bite of pepper and that peanut skin note than everyone is taking about. Quite sweet, lemongrass (thanks Simon) - woody, very drying.

Dram 4

Appearance: Pale gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line and fall as quick thin legs.

Nose: Furniture polish, lemon curd, lemon bonbons, lemon meringue pie. lemon peel, lemon zest..... Orange Quality Street maybe?

Palate: thin watery arrival, some citrus and orchard fruit. Pear drops and honey.

Dram 5

Appearance: Mid gold in the glass swirls cling as an inverted crown before falling as slow thin legs.

Nose: Struck match, dunnage warehouse, thick mixed fruit jam, dates, prunes.

Palate: Thick chewy arrival, rubber, peat smoke, chewy rum and raison chocolate, brown sugar. Dark chocolate coated marzipan. Nice!

The drams were:

Dram 5 was CB 1991 28yo Douglas Laing at 52.6% Sherry Cask £90

The theme was #ADramTooFar linked to the film A Bridge Too Far as all of the whiskies were from Cameronbridge Distillery - the one too far was the Haig Clubman but most people liked it!

Scores out of 5
