Bowmore @TweetTasting

@bowmore chose a @TweetTastings to share some of their older whiskies!

Here's my thoughts and those of a few friends!

My thoughts
:

Appearance: dark gold in the glass, swirls clings as a thin line bead up slowly and fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: Dark fruit: blackberries, plums, figs, dates, strawberries. There's some dark chocolate, herbal forest floor notes, a little salinity and some gentle smoke. A little time and air offers baked apples and dried fruit.

Palate: thin sweet arrival, immediately drying. The salinity is here along with the fruit from the nose. There's a some liquorice, chocolate limes and a little burnt toffee. There's some BBQ notes - the smoke has appeared!
Could be so much better at 46% NCF

Finish: short and smoky with a little berry fruit and dry spice.

My thoughts
:

Appearance: bronze in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, bead up slowly and fall as slow thin oily legs.

Nose: dunnage funk, old leather jacket, dried fruit, black cherries, figs, dates. There's a lot more smoke on the nose here, a little salinity & some balsamic vinegar. Lot's of spice notes here too: ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg. A little toffee & malt round it off.

Palate: Sweet smoky arrival, a little thin for the ABV but coats the mouth. Liquorice, dark chocolate, honeycomb and a little salinity. There's a little salinity and herbal note here which leaves the mouth dry. Ginger and cinnamon spice as the liquid disappears.

Finish: lingering dry spice, peat smoke and Christmas fruits.

My thoughts
:

Appearance: bronze in the glass, swirls cling as thin line in the glass which quick form tiny beads which take an age to fall as slow thin oily legs.

Nose: more dunnage funk, this time with more hedgerow berries and less smoke. There's sherry soaked dried fruit, balsamic vinegar, orange marmalade, marzipan and some stewed apples. The smoke has all but gone now, there's a hint of salinity but this is really all about sherry and Christmas.
A warmed mince pie, a little rum butter and a glass of @bowmore Timeless 29yo - are we all there?

Palate: thick chewy arrival - this is more like it! Christmas in a glass: dunnage funk, sherry soaked dried fruit, black cherries, dates, figs & cinnamon. There's a little orange zest, caramel sauce & blackcurrants. There's faint traces of salinity and smoke.

My thoughts
:

Appearance: bronze in the glass, swirls cling as a hairline crack in the glass, take an age to bead up and fall as slow thin oily legs.

Nose: orange marmalade, sherry soaked dried fruit, dried seaweed, stewed apple & custard, dark chocolate and a gentle peak smoke. There's some tinned prunes, liquorice, crystallised ginger and some vegetal notes.

Palate: thick sweet arrival, Parma Violets to the fore. Dry cinnamon & nutmeg spice with icing sugar strip the moisture from the mouth. a little smoke, chocolate gingers, Caramel Apple Granny Pie with rum & raisin ice cream & that enduring Param Violet note. It's strange I've always got Parma Violets on older @bowmore 20yo+ there's loads here on the 23yo but there was none on the 29yo - very strange!
