A regular on the @TweetTastings cycle, @Tullidistillery allowed us to try their Core Range bottlings.
My thoughts:
Appearance: pale gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, creating thick beads which fall as slow thick legs..
Nose: Barley sugars, orchard fruit, floral, coconut and some vanilla. There's some lovely citrus notes, shortbread fingers and some almond marzipan.
Palate: Sweet arrival with honey, stewed orchard fruit, nutty toffee and some digestive biscuit. Slightly drying. There's a lovely gingery spice note. A few more sips offer citrus peel, milk chocolate and a little buttered popcorn. The more you drink the drier it gets, leaving a lovely gingery spice on the tongue as the liquid disappears.
Finish: long, dry and spicy with some citrus zest and poached pear.
Other Tweeter's thoughts:
Appearance: light gold in the glass, swirls leave thin lines which create thick beads falling as slow thick legs.
Nose: Barley sugars, lemon zest and some vanilla. There's some shortbread hints like on the Sovereign but these ones have chocolate chunks. Stewed orchard fruits with vanilla custard, icing sugar and some spice hints. There's a little dunnage funk hiding in here too!
Palate: Sweet syrupy arrival, orchard fruit, some tropical hints, toffee and dry lime citrus. Dried apple slices, orange marmalade and some apricots come through with a few more sips. There's a huge drying note on this one again and a lovely ginger spice!
Finish: lingering dry spice, dried apple slices and some lime zest.
My thoughts:
Nose: Hedgerow berries, dark chocolate, vanilla cheesecake - very different from the previous two. There's still a little shortbread or biscuit note, some marzipan and citrus that I'd associate with Tulli but the wine cask has had a huge impact.
Palate: the berries from the nose are back: strawberries, blackberries etc but there's also an interesting liquorice note. Again very drying: shortbread, icing sugar, cinnamon spice. There's a little Turkish Delight note after a few sips - nice!
Finish: again long, dry and spicy, some citrus and a lovely melody of berries.
Other Tweeter's thoughts:
My thoughts:
Appearance: Dark gold in the glass, swirls leave thick lines which bead up and fall as slow thick legs.
Nose: Toffee, strawberry jam, orchard fruit & brown sugar. There's hints of shortbread and marzipan but again the Sherry Cask has had a big influence. There's some honey, brown sugar and caramel sweetness with some dried fruits and Christmas Spices!
Palate: Lovely thick arrival, suggesting more that 43%: toffee, mixed berry jam, stewed orchard fruit, honey and a little spice. A little sugar coated shortbread before it back to dry sherry soaked dried fruit and some citrus as the liquid disappears.
Finish: Medium length finish: sherry soaked dried fruit, dry cinnamon spice, a hint of citrus and some vanilla ice cream!
