@BimberLondon recently launched the first of a set bottlings celebrating London's Underground - 'The Tube' with the help of @TheWhiskyWire by holding a @TweetTastings
Lets see what the drams were like:
"‘The Tube’ is the oldest underground passenger railway network in the world. With over 250 miles of track and 270 stations across 11 lines, London Underground can deliver up to 5 million passenger journeys each day. The Spirit of the Underground Series celebrates one of the great engineering projects of the past 200 years. A subterranean labyrinth steeped in history that empowers the true lifeblood of London – its people."
With 270 stations on the network to select from, The Spirit of the Underground Collection is intended to grow alongside Bimber. New expressions will be added in batches sometimes as single casks, some times as married casks.
The first four releases are:
- Waterloo - ex-bourbon single cask #99 - 58.3% ABV
- Baker Street - ex-bourbon single cask #126 - 58.1% ABV
- King's Cross - ex-bourbon single cask #129 - 58.5% ABV
- Oxford Circus - ex-bourbon single cask #172 - 58.8% ABV
My thoughts:
Appearance: rich gold in the glass, swirls cling, take an age to bead up and fall as slow think legs.
Nose: tropical fruit, orchard fruit, oaky vanilla. Pineapple, mango, peach, pear. Spices of ginger and black pepper. Bounty chocolate and chewy toffee. Golden syrup and brandy snaps coming through now with some citrus hints
Palate: smooth buttery arrival, the ABV prickles the lips leaving a peppery spice. Golden syrup coats the mouth, a little pineapple and kiwi fruit. Barley sugars and a little sour citrus on the tongue as the liquid disappears.
Finish: Lingering peppery spice and tropical fruit notes. That sour citrus is still there too.

My thoughts:
Appearance: again a rich old colour, swirls cling as a thin line, bead up slowly and fall as slow thin legs.
Nose: apples - baked, stewed, squashed - take your pick - drizzled in honey. Some ice cream notes - rum and raisin? Then there's lots of citrus peel - lemon, blood orange,
Palate: sweet buttery arrival golden syrup and honey on tropical fruit - pineapple, mango, kiwi. Some toasted nuts and stringy caramel. Again there's some citrus left as the liquid disappears.
Finish: lingering tropical fruit, citrus and a bite of ginger spice.

My thoughts:
Appearance: again rich gold, swirls cling as a thin line, slowly bead up and fall as slow thin legs.
Nose: summer fruit - strawberries, blueberries, peaches, pineapple. There's a huge vanilla cream / custard note too. The spices seem a little more subdued on this one - a less active cask?
Palate: Citrus leads on this one - lemon peel, lemon drizzle cake, lemon bonbons - it also seems much drier than the previous two - icing sugar and marzipan. Tropical fruit notes in the background and some Turkish delight hints. Favourite so far!
Finish: lingering citrus and peppery spice - Nice!

My thoughts:
Appearance: rich gold colour, swirls cling, bead up slowly and fall as slow thin legs.
Nose: huge oak cask notes - like it's spent too long in the cask... White wine vinegar and lime juice, lead the way followed by tropical fruit, coriander, green tea and chilli. That sour citrus is back again too.
Palate: similar to the nose - citrus led, tropical fruit, herbs and spice. Very tropical - some rum cask notes, brown sugar and BBQ pineapple. Slightly drying with lots of peppery spice as the liquid disappears.
Finish: lingering spice with citrus and a hint of tropical fruit
