@TheWhiskyWire continues his 2021 @TweetTastings teaming up with independent bottler @whisky_cellar for the second time to launch their 2nd Release.
Six bottles from the new range along with a branded notebook and @MiaWoodCrafts cask pen were included - let's see what the drams were like!
The Whisky Cellar is an Edinburgh-based independent Scotch Whisky bottler, Keith Bonnington and his team selecting casks from their private stock at the peak of their character. Bottled as a parcel of single casks at a time, each individual series under the ‘Private Cellars Selection’ label is chosen to delivery a wide spectrum of natural colour, aroma and flavour. We received 6 samples from the Series 002 release.
Let's see what everyone thought!
My thoughts:
Appearance: dark gold in the glass, a hint of red? Swirls cling and leave a thin line of beads which falls as slow thin legs. Initial nose : strawberry jam
Nose: Strawberry jam, dried fruit, black cherries, wood, citrus, almonds.
Palate: The 57.1% ABV hits you hard, spicy pepper and the fried fruit and cherry notes from the nose are here as well as some stewed pears with dark chocolate flakes. Maybe a hint of smoke?
Finish: dry spicy and fruity, with that little hint of smoke again.
Other Tweeter's thoughts:
My thoughts:
Appearance: dark gold in the glass, swirls leave a hairline crack on the glass, which take an age to bead up and fall as slow thick legs.
Nose: red berries, black berries, citrus zest, thick golden syrup and a hint of oak. Yummy!
Palate: very dry, berry fruit and liquorice initially then a little citrus fizz on the tongue. A hint of salt and peat smoke or am I dreaming of Glen Scotia Tawny Port? This is going down really well!
Finish: long dry berry sweetness, yummy!

My thoughts:
Appearance: pale gold in the glass, swirls leave a thick line on the glass which falls as fairly fast thick legs.
Nose: I don't like this one - farm yard notes, a little smoke and a hint of tropical fruit, I normally like Jura, never had anything this old before.
Palate: A little thin after the last two drams, the farm yard notes have gone replaced by gentle orchard fruit, honey and caramel sauce. There's a little peat smoke before an odd Parma violet note as the liquid disappears.
Finish: long dry orchard fruit with a sweet edge.

My thoughts:
Appearance: pale gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, bead form slowly and fall as slow thing legs.

Nose: fresh cut grass, vanilla, lemon bonbons, Turkish delight and some orchard fruit.
Palate: thick sharp arrival, the ABV making itself known. Loads of tropical fruit notes alongside some strawberries, orange zest and honey - nice!
Finish: long sweet tropical fruit notes and a little peppery spice - nice!

Appearance: light gold in the glass, swirls leave a thin line on the glass, which take a while to bead up, eventually falling as slow thin legs.

Nose: soap suds covering a freshly washed blanket hanging on the line. Vanilla and orchard fruit notes mix with dried fruit and toffee - nice!
Palate: lovely creamy arrival, peppery spice and a warming note in the mouth. Brown sugar and cinnamon spice. Almonds and dark chocolate - yummy!
Finish: long sweet honey notes with a bite of peppery spice. Yummy!
Other Tweeter's thoughts:
My thoughts:
Appearance: dark gold in the glass, a little pink maybe, unusual but it's a wine cask finish. Swirls leave a thin line with tiny beads - an inverted crown. Slow thing legs.

Nose: BBQ on the beach - smoke, seaweed, berries, a little tarmac and rubber - almost Ledaig like?
Palate: Smoky bacon, seaweed, the smoke turning medicinal with a citrus zest hint.
Finish: long dry smoky finish with a little berry fruit.

Many thanks to @TheWhiskyWire, @whisky_cellar and my fellow tweeters for a great night sharing some great drams!
