BTC10 #BlindDrams Tasting Notes

These are my tasting notes from the Blind Tasting Consortium's 10th #BlindDrams evening.

These drams were picked by Sam @ReviewsWhisky and Mike @whiskyrover

Dram 1

Appearance: Very pale gold in the glass, swirls cling and fall as quick thick legs.

Nose: Dusty shed floor notes - wood, spilled oil, citrus peel, pine needles and faint hints of tropical fruit - nice!

Palate: wow - thick syrupy arrival, loads of tropical fruit - pineapple, mango, apricot, drying icing sugar, ginger spice giving a big kick from the ABV. This could almost be a @GlenScotiaMalts

Dram 2

Appearance: mid gold in the glass, swirls cling as thick beads which eventually fall as slow thick legs.

Nose: Herbaceous, foresty, notes, cardamom, roasted nuts, citrus zest and some peppery spice.

Palate: Again a thick syrupy arrival, a little more heat in this one - peppery spice, curry notes and a hint of sour citrus

Dram 3

Appearance: Pale gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line then fall as slow thick legs.

Nose: Sweaty teenager socks....Potato peelings.

Palate: Much better than the nose, the sweaty socks have gone, high ABV again sweet tropical fruit shines through - some brown sugar notes, custard covered bananas.

Dram 3 is a weird one, didn't like the nose, liked the palate, finish is long and sweet - I think this a dram which needs time and some familiarity - I'd risk a bottle for a fair price.

Dram 4

Appearance: Dark gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thing line, bead up and fall as slow thick legs.

Nose: Pirates of the Caribbean influence her e- rum, pineapple, gingerbread (ok maybe not PotC!), brown sugar - nice!

Palate: Thick warming sherry notes - thick strawberry jam, dunnage dust, berries, herbal and pine notes too - nice. Treacle toffee? All of the rum notes from the nose have disappeared - interesting.....

Dram 5

Appearance: Dark gold in the glass swirls leave a thick line on the glass, takes an age to bead up and falls as slow thick legs.

Nose: Dark fruit - cherries, dates, blackberries, a little dunnage funk - earthy, hints of ginger spice and vanilla with a little sour grapefruit.

Palate: Thick treacle-y arrival - sherry bomb territory - strawberry jam, brown sugar, dried fruit, Christmas Spices - got to be a @TheGlenAllachie
