#MiniTasting - Dailuaine Disco!

The #MiniTasting gang may not all be getting a little long in the tooth but we all like a good boogie! Thanks to @ScotchB78 we had a bit of a @SMWS Dailuaine Disco!

Bottler infoThe panel found a green, herbal and twiggy nose at first. The sense of someone proximately peeling a satsuma was detected. Also notes of buttercream, crushed nettle leaf, struck flints and malt loaf. Water revealed watermelon sweets, charred vegetables, coal dust, olive oil and an estery, ripe pear note. The mouth was full of a charred sweetness, with crushed coriander, rolled oats, butterscotch sauce, pineapple rings and fig jam. Reduction gave us vanilla sugar and lemon juice on pancakes, rosehip tea, some lavender oil and cherry calpol. Some welcome notes of marshmallow flumps in the aftertaste. At first we found an abundance of yellow flowers, pollen, honeycomb, fruit gums, touches of furniture polish, lemon lozenges and pears baked in calvados. A custard tart lurking underneath. With water we got freeze dried raspberries, chocolate limes, cumin salt, Moroccan spice rub and preserved lemon. A little jasmine tea, rosewater and dry earthiness too. The palate was drier; all on ovaltine, aged grappa, blackcurrants, cider apples, subtle waxes and hints of aged bourbon. Some orange bitters, liquorice and firecrackers were in the mix as well. Water made it more buttery with notes of dunnage, hessian, treacle sponge, lime oil, candy floss and wild strawberry.Hazelnuts and brazil nuts arrived neatly arranged on a sandalwood platter beside slices of warm banana bread and cherry pie. Then the sweet scents of dried carnations mingled with fresh apples drizzled with caramel sauce as chilli heat awakened the palate. With water we discovered the soft fruitiness of guava and passionfruit whilst battenberg cake brought with it marzipan and vanilla. Bags of nutmeg and cloves now fused with strong woody notes that suggested old mahogany and cigar boxes. A wedge of Jamaican ginger cake arrived on the finish where it was joined by banana skins and spiced orange. After spending 12 years in an ex-bourbon barrel this was transferred to a 2nd fill barrel for the remainder of its maturation.
Appearance

A very pale gold in the glass, swirls cling to the glass and fall as slow thin legs

Slightly darker but still a pale gold. Gravity defying swirls eventually falling as thick slow legs.

The darkest of the 3 but still pale gold. More gravity defying swirls and slow thing legs.
NoseBrianFresh cut grass, dried fruit, dried pineapple and a little icing sugar. With water there's much more in the way of grassy hay notes now - the nose gives a more drier note if that is possible?Lemons, lemons, lemons, a little icing sugar and a little digestive biscuit note.
Lemon cheesecake - spot on Scott!
Similar to 115, as Paul suggested, citrus & biscuit notes but more complex. There's some smoke notes and a hint of dunnage warehouse, the extra years have had an affect on this one.
JohnI think the satsuma in the name is a good shout, but very mineral too, not all about the sweetness... the ABV is hiding quite well on the nose...Initial nose by the power of suggestion is lemony, but also wet straw, quite earthy...Thicker all over, richer nose - is the additional char having quite an impact here? Getting a wee touch of mint on the nose now...
PaulLots of greenness, very fresh, fresh cut grass, pear, sweet citrus, them Haribos - tangfastics?, lemon. But there is something slightly savory to it as well. Seems quite complex! Great start!Similar but different - makes sense! Sweet lemon but it seems calmer. Bit of oats and biscuit type stuff. Also a floral polish type thing. But at over 62% its going to wack us with something...Similar to 115 with the oil sweet lemon - actually more of a oily lemonade. Slight savory herbs, little bit of milk chocolate. Still quite green and fresh though. Most complex of the evening?
ScottInitial nose - those chalky, fruity bon bon sweets. Very fruity, sweet, some sort of fruity punch. Haribos (thanks @WhiskynStuff), Maoam chews, liquorice allsorts.. Basically a alcoholic sweet shop!Yes lemons, but not overly so. Boiled travel sweets, with a thick savory note on the background.  Maybe even meaty.
Creamy lemon cheesecake on a digestive biscuit base.
Fresh baked banana bread. Chocolate covered banana,  smells thick if that makes sense. Lemon oil, savory, herb crusted ham. Mental
PalateBrianThick and syrupy, the ABV hits you immediately, no hint from the nose. The dried pineapple is there along with the dried fruit but not getting much in the way of satsuma citrus......Lots of fizzy sherbet notes - like a sherbet fountain, some biscuits notes again. But them lemons are everywhere! Instant dryness in the mouth.
I think a little water does add something - lemon flavour comes out more but without the citrus fizz - It's like a Lemon sponge now! Yummy!
Thick mouth coating arrival, a little citrus, some orchard fruit and biscuit then a gentle smoke note - yummy! This one definitely needs no water!
JohnThe ABV hits you on the palate though! Fizzy, like sherbet lemons - quite numbing and again very fresh, really pops this one! Much sweeter on the nose with a drop of water... just takes the edge of it... a little sweeter now, but dry... icing sugar and also more vegetal, grassy. Still very punchy on the palate - certainly not shy and retiring this one!Much more approachable with a drop of water - getting some lovely dusty oak now and more malty and the underlying sweetness is more assertive... nice!
I think the texture is better with water too, coats the palate well and as you know I'm all about the texture 😁
Getting a load of spice on this as well now!
No need for water here. Lemonade, slight fizz, sweet lemon, bit more fruity this one though, ripe pear, apple. There is a slight savoriness - tea? Dark rich chocolate - that cask has changed this.
Much fuller texture on the palate than the previous two as well and I've no desire to add any water to this one, hints of smoke, a more fruity sweetness too which really carries through on the palate... enjoying this one a lot.
PaulOh! Needs a bit of water for me, will start at 0.5ml Fizzy lemon sherbet. I think  @ScotchB78  has it right, alcoholic sweet shop! That fizziness! wow! Barley sugar, vanilla. Slightly more simple than the nose suggested but very tasty indeed!Does it need water? I'm in two minds here - surprisingly!
Barley sugar, biscuity, very sweet! But huge sweet citrus lemon. Very oily! Again, simple - ish but lovely!

ScottLemon, limes, sherbet,  no real satsuma for me tho. Also a bit dry near the end, something herby like. Oregano? It's the mouthfeel that does it for me on this one. Big, thick and oily. Lemons, drying, but the biscuit malt holds it together. Again, the thick mouthfeel carries this one. Lemons again, but a herbal, vegetable note with it. Don't think this is overly sweet but it is much richer than 41.115. Maybe a bit drier on the finish too.
FinishBrianLong lingering pineapple, icing sugar dryness and a little dried fruit - back to the nose. Nice.Thick sticky lemon juice lingers, some oak and a little sweetness. Yummy!Long lingering fruit, some nutty notes (maybe I read the name again?). Slightly drying but not as much as the first two.
John
PaulOnce the fizz dies down, its a nice vanilla, milk chocolate finish. Quite long to! It wacks you in the face with flavour this one! Lemon! Sweet lemon, lemon on digestives. Little bit of vanilla, but this is well named.Chocolate lemon, is that a thing? fruity biscuit. Then leads to a milk chocolate. Good length finish. Very nice
ScottI'm getting pineapple cube sweets on the finish! The dryness comes out a bit more here. Also some drumstick lollies for some reason
OverallBrianMuch nicer on the palate with the drop of water - no ABV hit and a much more in the way of fruit notes - apples, pears and strawberries.Loads of lemons, hence the name but more sweet than sour! This is a really good whisky!
For me they improved as they went along, the 41.117 winning on the night - yummy dram!
JohnNot a bad start at all, but I think there is better to come 😉Despite the ABV I don't think it needed water but it holds up well to a fair splash. This one takes it for me tonight, very much enjoying it 😋
Preference for me is in reverse order to how we tasted them... 41.117 followed by the 41.115 then 41.109
PaulVery nice, enjoyed that! I'm not sure I could enjoy it on the disco floor, but it's very nice. That fizz, don't think I've had anything like that!

Again, very nice!
I think the water took a way a heat to it, which let the.....lemon come through more. Made it sweeter for me.
I assume lemon is a distillery character here?
I've gone with 109, 117 then 115. But really did enjoy them all very much but the fizz won it for me!
ScottNeeds the water to tone the alcohol burn down a wee bit. Very fruity, though if you leave it half an hour or so it becomes much more savory. I'll be gutted when this is finished.  My second bottle and no more available 😭 I'm actually going to agree with  @jwbassman_  and rank them 117, 115 then 109 despite my love of the 115. Strange!
The sad thing is, the official bottling is rubbish compared to this lot. Full of caramel etc
