A lovely parcel arrived although I still can't understand how they kept the snow from melting!
Mackmyra was founded in 1999, the very first Swedish whisky expedition, a journey that has just begun. Their spirits are created with Swedish ingredients, a climate-smart distillation technique and a big portion of patience – giving it a unique whisky expression. On the evening we were joined by two of the brand ambassadors to help with questions.
We started with MACK a 40% single malt.
Distillery info: Nose: The nose is fruity and elegant, with aromas of citrus and pear. It has a soft touch of vanilla oak and a slight spiciness, with herbal notes of anise, mint and vanilla. Palate: The palate is fresh and fruity with a spicy character of pear, citrus and a soft touch of vanilla oak. The aftertaste is short with notes of sugar, vanilla and spiciness.
My thoughts: bright gold in the glass, swirls lead to fast thick legs, initial nose spiced pears!
Nose: Spiced pears, fresh bananas, a hint of lemon juice and a little oaky spice hiding in there somewhere.
Palate: Slight sour arrival, aniseed, pears, apples, a little butterscotch. Then there's a kick of spice which lingers on the tongue. Nice!
Finish: Short spicy finish with more of the orchard fruit and a honey sweetness.

Next was Brukswhisky a 41.1% single malt.
Distillery info: Nose: Butterscotch, citrus, pear, licorice, banana and mint. Palate: Fresh fruity and peppery. Youthful, fruity flavor with a spicy taste of toffee.
My thoughts:pale gold in the glass, swirls linger then fall as slow thick legs. Initial nose lemon drizzle cake.
Nose: Lemon drizzle cake, stewed apples and a hint of peppermint (Mint Toffos?). There's a dryness coming through to like icing sugar.
Palate: Oatcakes with a spoonful of apple and honey puree. The icing sugar from the nose is back, taking the moisture from the mouth - strange given the low ABV. Nice dram though!
Finish: Another fairy short finish, this time with oak notes giving a lovely spicy glow to the back of the mouth. The orchard fruit and honey from the finish are there too. Really nice!

Third dram of the evening was Svensk Ek (Swedish Oak) a 46.1% single malt matured in Swedish Oak casks.
Distillery info: Nose: Fruity with citrus, pear, apple and honey. A light oakiness with sweet, lightly toasted bread notes and fresh butter toffee. Palate: Svensk ek has a spicy character giving notes of sandalwood, dried ginger, black pepper, roasted oak barrel and herbs to our whisky. Fruity and smooth with citrus, caramel and honey. A light oakiness can be discerned at the end.
My thoughts: it's another pale dram, swirls turn into tiny beads. Initial nose @StroopwafelW biscuits
Nose: caramel waffles, lemon juice, stewed apple and vanilla. I'm also getting a fresh herbal note like cut grass. This one just racks up the fruit notes a little - lovely dram!
Palate: It's a bit more punchy than the previous two - loads more orchard fruit notes but also some orange peel and wood. There's a dryness again like the Bruks and a spicy fizz on the tongue, Yummy!
Finish: a longer finish on this one, loads of oak and stem ginger spice. There's a little toffee and honey to balance into sweetness. Lovely dram!
Other people thoughts:
Next was Svensk RoK (Swedish Smoke) a 46.1% smoky
single malt.
Distillery info: Nose: The nose is slightly smoky and spicy with aromas of peat, juniper, vanilla, caramel, citrus, pears and raisins. Spicy oak notes such as toasted bread and anise. Palate: Smokier than the nose with smoky, peaty, juniper notes. Dry, oaky aromas found with light tobacco leaves and herbs. A slight saltiness with minerals, anise and green fruits.
My thoughts: Pale in the glass, swirls bead up and fall as slow fat legs. Initial nose burnt toffee apples
Nose: Lovely fruity spicy smoke, it's definitely not from Islay! The spice pulls at your nasal hairs, the smoke wraps around like blanket but all the time there is that fruit note - distillery character orchard fruit but also some berries and citrus, Yummy!
Palate: Mmmmmmmmmm! It's a 3 way fight between the smoke, the fruit and the spice on this one, the fruit continues the distillery character but falls at the first hurdle, the spice nips at your tongue but can't get any further. The smoke.... it's gorgeous, covers everything! Once the liquid has gone down your throat you get a little smoke coming back up, then the spice and fruit come to the fore - lemon zest and ginger combine - this is lovely! I need a bottle.
Finish: This one is here to stay - huge smoke notes covering the fruit and spice, there's also a little salt here which I didn't notice on the palate. Immense!

Final dram of the evening was Appelblom a 46.1% single malt
matured in casks which had previously held Calvados. We were also send a sample of the Calvados to try alongside the whisky.
Distillery info: Nose: Fruity, lightly floral with vanilla notes from bourbon and new American oak casks. Toffee, toasted oak and cedar. Fruity tones of apple, pear and lemon. Taste: Fruity and spicy, apple, ripe pear and lemon. Fine spicy flavours of vanilla, cedar wood, aniseed, almond toffee white pepper and ginger. A slightly rounded texture. Aftertaste: Fruity, spicy tones together with a light oakiness and a soft, fruity apple tang.
My thoughts: a lovely gold colour in the glass, swirls cling to the glass then slowly form small
beads. Initial nose? What else but apples!
Nose: Apples of all types - almost cider but there's lots of other fruit in their too - some citrus, red berries. Some vanilla and honey also. Nosing along side the Calvados, interesting comparison, more sour apple than the fresh apple of the dram.
Palate: Icing sugar dryness, a little honey and apple but a lot of spice. Calvados Palate: slightly sour apple - loads of in your face cider notes.
Finish: Very warming, the apples are there but also a sweetness from some honey and a hint of smoke, Nice!

A lovely range of #MackmyraWhisky drams tonight, standout for me was the Rok, followed by the Ek.
Many thanks to @TheWhiskyWire for organising, @Mackmyra for the drams and my fellow tweeters (including @MackmyraJon & @shanepirie) for a great evening!
