To celebrate 10 years distilling whisky White Peak have launched a special release of their core-range Caduro called Caduro X
Let's see what it's all about!
White Peak tell their story:
"Ten years in business feels like a milestone worth marking. To celebrate, we wanted to create a release that reflects the DNA of making—capturing not just where we are today, but everything that’s shaped us along the way. Caduro X is a celebration of that journey. Since founding White Peak Distillery in 2016 and finding our home at The Wireworks, our approach has been guided by a simple idea: to make things the proper way. Every decision has been driven by a commitment to provenance, heritage, and flavour.Caduro X reflects a legacy of innovation and craftsmanship rooted in The Wireworks itself—a place of making dating back 150 years, and now we mark a new decade in that story. Here, ideas are shared, tested, refined, and brought to life. That same spirit continues to shape everything we do today. Caduro X recognises the people, the place, and the processes that have made Wire Works Whisky what it is—crafted with patience, passion, and an unwavering focus on flavour.Over the past decade, we’ve explored every stage of whisky-making to better understand how flavour is built—from fermentation and distillation through to maturation and final blending. Caduro X is a reflection of that journey.Like its namesake Caduro—the first whisky in our Wire Works Provenance Core range—this release is built on a vatting of our signature STR (ex-red wine) casks and first fill ex-bourbon barrels. It represents the natural evolution of our early work, building on our First Release in 2022 and the ‘Small Batch’ releases that followed.
First Release, Small Batch 1 & 2, Caduro plus Alter Ego & Special WatersFor this limited-edition release, we’ve worked with both our ‘regular-cuts’ and ‘alt-cuts’ single malts), using the alternate distillation cut-points to lean into a brighter profile, carrying a tropical fruit character and a subtle uptick in peat. To add further depth, we’ve used ‘special waters’ to proof the whisky down to 46.8%; a technique where we mature our low-strength spirit in oak casks to access the range of water-soluble flavours and textures that high strength spirits can’t reach. The result is a rich, sweet and spicy dram—full of orchard and tropical fruits, toffee and chocolate, with a gentle thread of smoke."
Bottler info:
Like its namesake Caduro (from our Wire Works Provenance Core range), the whisky is a vatting of first fill ex-bourbon barrels and our signature STR casks. Caduro X brings forth our DNA of making and commitment to innovation.
We’ve worked with both our ‘regular-cuts’ and ‘alt-cuts’ single malts, using the alternate distillation cut-points to lean into a brighter profile, carrying a tropical fruit character and a subtle uptick in peat. To add further depth, we’ve used ‘special waters’ to proof the whisky down to bottling strength.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Banoffee pie, egg custard tarts, Murray mints, a hint of peat, wine gums, wood spice, baked apple, strawberry laces, orange zest.Palate: Cinnamon rolls, butter icing, pineapple cubes, milk chocolate, yoghurt coated cranberries, marmalade, gentle tannins, nutmeg.Finish: Cinder toffee, candied ginger, cinnamon balls, honey, apple sours, gentle wood smoke..
Anyway what did it taste like?
My thoughts:
Appearance: dark gold in the Glencairn, swirls don't cling but fall straight back into the glass as a curtain - very strange!
Nose: juicy orange to start, some honey, raisin stuffed baked apples and vanilla custard. There's some berry hints, grilled banana and a lovely hint of smoke.
Palate: thick juicy arrival, mouthcoating. There's poached pears, apricots, peach and plums. Very drying. There's loads of berries and cherries, orange marmalade, gentle spice, gentle smoke and a lovely milk chocolate note. Further sips offer hints of liquorice, toffee pennies and a little citrus.
Finish: lingering juicy fruit, gentle spice and a hint of smoke.
Overall: Dangerously drinkable, White Peak in a glass, YUMMY! A recent chat with a mate during a blind sample flight had us talking about what was most important in a dram and mouthfeel comes right up there at the top. This "Petites Eaux" or "Small Waters" technique that White Peak use delivers it in bucketfuls. Just buy a bottle.
