Auchentoshan White Port Distillery Exclusive

Due to my wife's broken ankle our trip to Glasgow Whisky Festival didn't quite go to plan and I found myself at Auchentoshan distillery with Mike & Sam for what turned out to be a great tasting!

Whilst there we bought a bottle of the Distillery Exclusive White Port finish!

Here's the blog about our distillery visit.

Bottler info:

As with most Distillery Exclusives there isn't a whole lot of information!
The back label says:

Distilled: 12.06.2012

Bottled: 21.10.2025

Cask Type: White Port

Cask No.: 468

Strength: 57.1% ABV

I've only tried a handful of White Port cask matured drams before, a Brave New Spirits Glenlossie a Glen Scotia and a Milk & Honey spring to mind, let's see what this one is like?

My thoughts:

Appearance: dark gold in the Glencairn, swirls cling as a hair line crack in the glass, take some time to bead up and fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: loads of thick dunnage funk, red berries, toffee and bread and butter pudding. There's a lot going on here: gooseberries, vanilla, black cherries, peach and a clove spice.

Palate: thick, mouth coating arrival, it starts sweet with toffee, berries and cherries before the spice kicks in and it goes very dry. A few more sips offer baked apples stuffed with raisins, caramel, gooseberries, liquorice and some nuts.

Finish: lingering dry spice, berries and toffee.

Overall: As I said in my distillery visit review here, Auchentoshan produce some fantastic spirit, the problem is getting hold of it NCF and at a decent ABV. The Distillery Exclusives are obviously the place to start and this one was well worth buying!
