#WireWorksWhisky Tasting

English distillery @White Peak Distillery chose a Whisky Wire Tasting to launch a couple of new bottlings and revisit a couple of older ones!

Here's my thoughts and those of a few friends!

This one one of Steve's first multi-platform tastings, the first on BlueSky so we were able to use deck.blue to follow the hashtag #WireWorksWhisky and keep up with what everyone was saying about the drams.

The drams we received were:
  1. Wire Works Bourbon Barrel
  2. Caduro CS
  3. LBV Port
  4. Special Waters

My thoughts
:

Appearance: Bourbon Barrel at 53.4% ABV: light gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, bead up slowly and fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: apple pie, grapes, lemon zest, vanilla, fresh cut grass and a little oak. There's some proving dough notes and a lovely distant smoke note.

Palate: thick, juicy, mouth coating arrival: Honey, rum & raisin ice cream, icing sugar. There's a huge bite of ginger spice and the zing of lemon zest. A few more sips offer tropical fruit, barley sugars, lemon meringue pie and a lovely popcorn note.

Finish: dry and smoky with a lingering lemon bonbons and ginger spice. Yummy!

My thoughts
:

Appearance: Caduro Cask Strength at 58% ABV: mid gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, take an age to bead up and fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: a little smoke smoke on this one, marzipan, poached pear and a little hedgerow berry compote. Honey and caramel offer a little sweetness but there's coffee grinds and lemon zest to balance.

Palate: again a lovely thick mouth coating arrival, this is sweeter than the Bourbon with honey, hedgerow berries & caramel. There's a bite of spice due to the high ABV but overall nicely balanced. A few more sips offer orange marmalade & stewed fruit

Finish: lingering dry spice, berry compote, lemon zest and ginger spice with a lovely smoke note. Yummy!

My thoughts
:

Appearance: Port Wine LBV at 53.3% ABV: light bronze in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, slowly form beads which hang for ages before falling as slow thin oily legs.

Nose: huge hedgerow berry notes: strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries all with a lovely background of smoke. There's some strawberry Toffos, plums, black cherries and a little brown sugar.

Palate: thick velvety arrival, sits on the tongue exploding complex flavours! Milk chocolate covered strawberries, blueberry pie, blackcurrant cordial. There's some marzipan and WW typical smoke note! A slight musty dunnage note rounds things off nicely!

Finish: short and dry with red berries, toffee and distant smoke. Yummy!

My thoughts
:

Appearance: Special Waters at 57.3% ABV mid gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, take some time to bead up and fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: Berries and cherries to the fore: blackberries, blackcurrants, strawberries and a lovely black cherry note. There's the trademark White Peak hint of smoke and milk chocolate. A little candied peel, stewed orchard fruit and a hint of liquorice.

Palate: Thick sweet arrival, all of the berries and cherries from the nose are here but it's the mouthfeel that you really notice: it's really thick - yogurt-y even. Mouthcoating fresh strawberry and blackberry notes. There's a huge bite of peppery spice, a little stewed apple and a dry as the liquid disappears. Further sips offer milk chocolate, toffee and a little liquorice.

Finish: Lingering sweet berry notes, very dry peppery spice and a hint of smoke.

This dram was actually my dram of the year for 2024 - full explanation of why it is 'Special Waters' and review here!
