Edradour 10yo Unchilfiltered

@edradourmalt was the first distillery I visited back in 1999 and I've had a soft spot for it every since.

Imagine my joy when my local pub put a bottle behind the bar!

Let see what the distillery say:

Distillery notes

This is a Signatory Vintage bottling (the independent bottler is based at Edradour Distillery) and is labelled with date of distillation, cask numbers, bottle number and bottling date. 2014 10yo whisky a marriage of 4 first-fill oloroso sherry butts (casks 44, 63, 153 & 154)

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Rich, spiced fruit cake and roasting nuts

Palate: Red berry fruits, spiced sultanas, maple syrup and almonds combine deliciously. A hint of Dolly Mixtures. The presence of fine oak Oloroso casks provide a backdrop of great depth and fullness. The rich mouth feel that comes from the smallest traditional stills in Scotland is even more apparent

Finish: Creamy oak, mild warming spices with a calming nature

Let's see what it's like....

My thoughts:

Appearance: Bronze in the Cut Crystal Glencairn, swirls cling as a thick line bead up and fall as quick thick legs.

Nose: Sherry bomb heaven: dried fruit, dates, figs, prunes and a lovely orange marmalade note. There's some balsamic vinegar, marzipan, walnuts and a little hint of dunnage funk. I'm sure there's a little smoke here too.

Palate: Thick, sweet arrival, carrying on from the nose with dried fruit, dates, figs, prunes and that lovely orange marmalade note. At 46% it's not chewy but it's still got a lovely mouthfeel. Loads of caramel notes here, a little of the smoke from the nose and a gentle peppery spice.

Finish: Lingering smoke, salinity and dry peppery spice.

Overall: Always carry a sample bottle with you - you never know what treasures you might come across! This is a lovely dram at 46% it would be magical at cask strength. I've tried it twice in the local and taken a sample to review - I don't think anyone else has touched the bottle!
