Brave New Spirits @TweetTastings

Indie bottler Brave New Spirits @BNS_Whisky chose a @TweetTastings to launch  some of their new bottlings.

Here's my thoughts and those of a few friends!

Brave New Spirits have 3 ranges:

Cask Noir : Carefully curated bottlings with some unusual wood finishes - Starting life in some of Scotland’s finest studios (aka “distilleries”) each release takes inspiration from classic movies and novels from a bygone era.  From thrilling and adventurous to dark, romantic and mysterious, these whiskies embark on a journey of discovery, into an exceptional world of exotic flavours and interesting & unusual casks.

Whisky Of Voodoo : Small batches of whisky selected by the Master of Ceremony - Whisky of Voodoo is a range of special, small-batch single malt and single grain whiskies. Designed to entice and enchant, these carefully selected whiskies are matured and finished using the finest casks, often sourced from exotic, far-flung locations.

The Yellow Edition : Carefully selected single cask bottlings - Brave New Spirits proudly present their Yellow Edition range. A selection of whiskies, specially chosen to reflect the character and diversity of their country of origin. With The Yellow Edition, we aim to present whiskies to delight connoisseurs all over the world. Whiskies with a focus on provenance, individuality, quality, class and of course, flavour.

The drams we received were:

    My thoughts
    :

Appearance: pale gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, take an age to bead up and fall as slow thin oily legs.

Nose: tropical fruit, citrus and acetone to start. Some damp grass, a little milk chocolate and a hint of salinity.

Palate: thick sweet arrival, immediately dry and spicy. The tropical fruit: pineapple, mango & kiwi and the citrus: lemon zest from the nose are back along with a huge kick of ginger spice. There's a little honey, dry cinnamon and cloves as the liquid disappears.

Finish: lingering dry spice, cinnamon, ginger and a little salted lemon.

Appearance: dark gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, take an age to bead up and fall as slow thick legs.

Nose: blueberry jam, dried fruit, balsamic vinegar drizzled strawberries. There's some musty dunnage notes and a little buttered popcorn.

Palate: thick sweet arrival, sherry bomb notes with dried fruit, prunes, dates and figs. The balsamic vinegar and blueberry jam from the nose are back along with some dark chocolate, liquorice and dry spice. Yummy!

Finish: lingering dry sherry, dried fruit and blueberry jam.

    My thoughts
    :

Appearance: mid gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, bead up and fall as slow thick legs.

Nose: heathery peat smoke, hedgerow berries, toasted oak and a hint of salted lemons. There's some caramel, milk chocolate and a hint of smoked bacon.

Palate: thick chewy arrival, toffee apple, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries. There's a some vanilla ice cream, dark nutty chocolate, some peppery spice and a little salinity. A dry sour citrus and some smoke left on the tongue as the liquid disappears. Yummy!

Finish: lingering dry spice, berries, citrus and smoke.

    My thoughts
    :

Appearance: pale gold, again almost white wine in colour, swirls form large beads which fall as slow thick legs.

Nose: thick peat smoke, a little musty book shop, salinity and some citrus. A little time in the glass offers porridge, honey and orchard fruit.

Palate: thick sweet arrival, immediately dry and spicy. Tropical fruit notes mix with BBQed steak and honey. There's a dry gingery spice and a floral heathery smoke which blankets everything. Nice!

Finish: lingering dry spice, tropical fruit and a little salinity.
