The Whisky Cellar @TweetTastings

@whisky_cellar shared some of their recent bottlings with us in a @TweetTastings.

Here's my thoughts and those of a few friends!

My thoughts:

Appearance: pale gold in the glass, swirls clings as a very thin line, take an age to bead up and fall as slow thin oily legs.

Nose: tropical fruit to start with marzipan, vanilla and a little puttered popcorn. Dried pineapple, banana chips, mango alongside stewed pears, apricots and a little caramel.

Palate: Sweet arrival, mouthcoating oiliness (butter) offers all the fruit from the nose with a big bite of peppery spice. There's a little salinity & some citrus here too: lemon bonbons. A typical sweet & spicy grain - yummy!

Finish: long sweet finish with powdered sugar, buttered popcorn and peppery spice.

My thoughts
:

Appearance: bronze in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, bead up slowly and fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: thick blueberry jam, dates, black cherries, prunes, figs. Balsamic vinegar drizzled strawberries. There's some Christmas spices and loads of dark ripe plum notes on this nose too - yummy!

Palate: thick sweet arrival: toffee, maple syrup with a sharp edge: balsamic vinegar. Mouthcoating. There's sherry soaked dried fruit, stoned fruit: plums, dates black cherries. Some salted nuts and a lovely spread of Christmas spices.

Finish: lingering sherry soaked dried fruit, toffee and a little cinnamon spice.

My thoughts
:

Appearance: mid gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, bead up slowly to form an inverted crown and eventually fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: quite closed this one, may be the effect of the previous dram. a little honey, brown sugar, stewed orchard fruit and some berries. There's a little smoke hint and some citrus zest here too.

Palate: thick buttery arrival with a big bite of peppery spice. There's some berry jam notes stewed orchard fruit, almonds, orange juice, Terry chocolate orange, a little spearmint & some salinity. The peppery spice is back as the liquid disappears.

Finish: long and sweet with salted lemon zest, honey and dried pineapple. Yummy!

My thoughts
:

Appearance: dark gold in the glass, swirls cling as a hairline crack in the glass, take an age to bead up and eventually fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: stewed orchard fruits, dried fruit, with a little caramel sauce and custard. There's some citrus zest, marzipan, pine needles and hints of ginger spice.

Palate: thick oily arrival, immediately spicy - lots of ginger and cinnamon. Then it all goes dry - apricot, ginger snaps and dark chocolate. There's orange marmalade and toffee giving a little sweetness.

Finish: lingering ginger and cinnamon spice, some orchard fruit and dry oak. Nice.
