#BTC28 #BlindDrams Tasting Notes

These are my tasting notes from the Blind Tasting Consortium's 28th #BlindDrams evening.

These drams were picked by Brian @MaltMusings

His theme was Brian's Whisky Brexit, picking whiskies from Europe!

So as usual the other 27 of us worked our way through the 5 blind drams, sharing our thoughts and giving a score out of 5 before they were all revealed at the end.

Dram 1

Appearance: dark gold in the glass, maybe a hint of red? Swirls cling as a thin line, bead up slowly and fall as slow thick legs.

Nose: red berries: strawberries, raspberries, red currents; these some musty bookshop stuff going on with dates, raisins and plums here too.

Palate: thick sweet arrival, brown sugar, more of the berries, a hint of toffee. There's some dryness here too - icing sugar? A little orange or lemon zest! A lovely Christmassy cinnamon spice left on the tongue as the liquid disappears!

Dram 2

Appearance: mid gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line form small beads as an inverted crown which eventually fall as slow thin oil legs.

Nose: orchard fruit to start: apples, pears, peaches; when a little nuttiness and melting milk chocolate. A little dry citrus and a hint of spice.

Palate: thin sweet arrival, honey, pear drops, toffee; a little peppery spice, some orange juice and a strange creamy sour note as the liquid disappears...

Dram 3

Appearance: mid gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thick line, slowly bead up and fall as slow thick legs

Nose: sweet, stewed orchard fruit: apples, pears, apricots; a little pastry, icing sugar and some oak spice. A little time and air offers citrus zest and some coconut mushrooms.

Palate: Creamy arrival, slightly drying - the orchard fruit from the nose is here, along with the oak spice and citrus. There's a little honey, toffee and some bitter dark chocolate. After a few sips you end up with a very dry mouth, almond and coconut notes

Dram 4

Appearance: mid gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thick line bead up slowly and fall as slow thick legs.

Nose: tropical fruit, berries, a little metallic note. A hint of sour citrus, a little salinity and some porridge. A little time and air gives more red berry and plum notes.

Palate: thin sweet arrival, very drying. Honey, vanilla, icing sugar. There's some red berries, dried pineapple and a salted lemon note - a little strange.

Dram 5

Appearance: dark gold / bronze in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line take an age to bead up and eventually fall as slow thin legs

Nose: dunnage funk, dried fruit, prunes, dates, black cherries. A little hint of smoke and salinity here too. Some engine oil / rubber / tarmac funk here too!

Palate: WOW that's weird - oily smoked fish, dried fruit, a little salinity and some sour citrus.
This is really a sitting on wall dram for me...
