Glen Scotia @TweetTastings

@GlenScotiaMalts Distillery recently held a @TweetTastings with @TheWhiskyWire

I was lucky enough to be picked - here's my thoughts and those of a few friends!

Glen Scotia Distillery sent us each 5 drams from the current range including the 25yo The World's Best Whisky 2021 as voted for at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Let's see what they were like:

My thoughts:

Appearance
: light gold in the glass, swirls leave a thin line which beads up slowly and falls as slow thin legs. Initial nose: salted caramel on  baked apples.

Nose:  orchard fruit, baked with dried dried fruit: apples, pears, apricots, covered in salted caramel sauce. There's a little strawberry jam, cherries and some honey.

Palate: Sweet and spicy arrival, the honey from the nose, salted caramel and jam balanced with a ginger spice. The orchard fruit turns tropical with pineapple and mango. Ever present salt reminds you of sitting on the shores of Campbeltown Loch.

Finish: Lingering dry ginger spice and honey. Yummy!

Other Tweeter's thoughts:

My thoughts:

Appearance
: Light gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thick line, bead up and fall as slow thick legs.
Initial nose: embers on a tropical beach

Nose: A little smoke, a little salt, some tropical fruit and a bite of cinnamon spice. Pineapple, mango, banana and peach smothered in honey and sprinkled with salt.

Palate:  Thick oily arrival, tropical fruit from the nose are here along with some honey nut cornflakes, salted caramel & dried fruit. There's some meaty notes - sitting on a fishing boat with a little brazier going? Rounded off with cinnamon spice and smoke. There's a load of orange zest coming through on each further sip - yummy! There's a little smoke in the background which dries the mouth as the liquid disappears.

Finish: long spicy and dry, a little tropical fruit and smoke!

My thoughts:

Appearance
: light gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line which beads up slowly forming an inverted crown. Legs fall slowly, oily and thick. Initial nose: sherry soaked rich fruitcake

Nose: sherry soaked dried fruit, crème brûlée, spiced oak, vanilla, lemon zest. The GS DNA tropical fruit, salt and smoke are still here but the sherry is coming to the fore.

Palate: thick oily arrival, strawberry jam, dried fruit, berries. A bite of ginger spice and citrus peel. The crème brûlée from the nose if back along with hints of tropical fruit and smoke.

Finish: lingering orchard fruit, honey and a hint of chocolate.

My thoughts:

Appearance
: again light gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thick line, bead up slowly and fall as slow thick legs. Initial nose: salted caramel

Nose: salted caramel, honey, a little dunnage warehouse funk and a bag of liquorice allsorts.
The tropical fruit and salt of GS is again a little hidden but still there.

Palate: thick oily arrival, sweet toffee, a little orange juice, and honey. There's a little dried fruit and berry jam, peppery spice and a hint of smoke. YUMMY! I always think of this as the runt of the litter in the range but it's bloody good.

Finish: lingering sweet honey, a little toffee and a gentle ginger spice. Yummy!

My thoughts:

Appearance
: light gold in the glass, swirls cling as  a thin line, bead up slowly forming an inverted crown before falling as slow thin legs. Initial nose: standing by Campbeltown Loch

Nose: GS DNA in a glass: salty sea breeze, tropical fruit, honey and gentle smoke. Long maturation in ex-bourbon casks giving vanilla and a gentle peppery spice.

Palate: thick oily arrival, orange zest and salted caramel and vanilla custard. Mouthcoating. There's sweetness in the honey and caramel; citrus in the orange and lemon; tart apples; tropical fruit and the ever present salt and gentle smoke. YUMMY 5/5

Finish: Lingering tropical fruit, ginger and salt. #EnoughSaid
