Whisky from...? England 3

Next in my little series on Whisky from...? is England - again! My latest count suggest there are over 30 whisky distilleries in England, this time I'm looking at the London distillery.

Founded in 2011 The London Distillery was London's first whisky distillery since the Lea Valley distillery closed in 1903.

It produced whisky and gin for nearly 10 years before unfortunately going into administration in 2020.

Whisky - LDC Single Cask 109, 63.4% ABV

Distillery notes: This whisky was laid down on 9th September 2015 and aged for 3 years. 28 bottles of this 109 Cask Edition was released to support the men's health charity Movember. Nose: Ripe pineapple and buttered toast, leading into homemade marmalade, and spiced berry compote. Palate: Mango fool, summer fruits, and citrus curd, balanced by a good dose of spicy oak. Finish: Toasted brioche slathered in berry jam lingers.

My thoughts:
Appearance: Dark gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line and fall as slot thin legs.
Nose: Tropical fruit, golden syrup and citrus zest. Pineapple, kiwi and coconut hints mix with a sweet syrup and orange zest. There's a little toffee popcorn and hints of vanilla toffee.
Palate: Thick spicy arrival, big bite from the ABV. Once you're past the ABV there's toffee, malt and ginger spice. This is obviously a young spirit but the high ABV hides a little of the new make character. The liquid is very drying but it's not the icing sugar note I usually get this is more woody - oaky. There is some sour citrus and loads of tropical spice notes.
Finish: Lingering toffee and sour citrus.
Overall: An interesting dram, from a now closed distillery. Unfortunately it's not had the time to mature and it shows. You can see the beginning of some complexity but the youthful spirit still shows though. A little bit of whisky history but for all the wrong reasons.

Many thanks to @Ardbaggie for the sample swap!
