@ADRattrayWhisky Whisky celebrated the release of their 65th Cask Collection with a @TweetTastings with @TheWhiskyWire
I was lucky enough to be picked - here's my thoughts and those of a few friends!
My thoughts:
Appearance: pale gold in the glass, swirls cling as a hairline crack, slowly bead up and fall as slow thin legs.
Nose: citrus zest, vanilla custard, huge abv tickles the nasal hairs! A little sweetness - honey? and some pine needles.
Palate: Sweet and spicy, orange and lemon zest, a kick from the ABV - this seems a lot younger than it's 11 years, Tropical fruit notes - dried pineapple in icing sugar.
Finish: Lingering dry tropical fruit and citrus. My first unpeated Ardmore and it just didn't tick the boxes...
Other Tweeter's thoughts:
My thoughts:
Appearance: mid gold in the glass, swirls form a thick line in the glass which bead up and fall as slow thick legs.
Nose: toffee popcorn, buttered crumpets, a hint of smoke, peaches and pears, A little dunnage funk.
Palate: Thick sweet arrival honey drizzled poached pears, lemon juice, dried fruit. Lip tingling! The toffee popcorn from the nose is back - yummy!
Finish: medium length toffee and fruit notes. What a yummy dram, the ABV isn't noticeable and the toffee popcorn note flows through from nose to finish!

My thoughts:
Appearance: pale gold in the glass, swirls cling as a hairline crack, slowly bead up and fall as slow thin legs,
Nose: Sawn wood, hint of smoke, maritime breeze, fudge, damp sawdust. Some vanilla hints
Palate: thick syrupy arrival, maritime smoke notes, tropical fruit and salted caramel. Huge peppery spice bite. This is lovely!
Finish: Lingering peppery spice and tropical fruit.
Yummy - a very typical ex-bourbon Glen Scotia.

My thoughts:
Appearance: mid gold in the glass, swirls leave a hairline crack in the glass, which forms large beads falling as slow thick legs.
Nose: dunnage warehouse funk, lacquered wood, toffee pennies, cold coffee. Again the ABV tickles the nasal hair!
Palate: Golden syrup, lemon juice, toffee and some orchard fruit. ABV giving a huge peppery spice hit. Very drying - icing sugar, grape skins, oak.
Finish: lingering ginger spice and toffee. Another lovely dram - the high ABV begging for water though.
Other Tweeter's thoughts:
My thoughts:
Appearance: very pale gold, swirls leave a thin line which slowly beads up and falls as slow thin legs.
Nose: bonfire on a beach (yes really!) thick peat smoke, drying seaweed, tropical fruit - pineapple, mango, banana and a little citrus.
Palate: thin sweet arrival, peat smoke fills the mouth, gentle peppery spice and citrus zest. Seaweed, peanut skins, tropical fruit and some oak. Typical Caol Ila - very nice!
Finish: lingering peppery spice and tropical fruit notes. Nice!
