Whisky Subscription: Whisky Pioneer

Whisky Pioneer is a new whisky tasting subscription club which send you a 50ml bottle of whisky, every month, for you to try at home.

They are obviously competing against some long established services but they have a clever USP - sustainability, let's find out more.

Launching this month Whisky Pioneer are charging £7.95 for a monthly bottle of whisky, usually 50ml but sometimes 60ml.

It's a simple subscription service where you sign up, pay your money at the beginning of each month and receive a bottle later that month. You can pause or cancel at any time.

So what's makes it different?

Whisky Pioneer's unique selling point is it's sustainability angle:

  • Their beautifully embossed plastic bottles are made from 100% recycled plastic waste.
  • The bottles are 100% recyclable when you have finished with them, or, collect 10 and send them back for a free dram.
  • The envelopes are 100% recyclable and as you can see from my animation above are small enough to fit through your letter box - so there's no post office trips or signatures required.

Each month you'll receive a 50ml sample (occasionally a 60ml one, the bottles are big enough) and an information card. There's also further information about that month's dram on their website.

So what about the whisky?

Whisky Pioneer say:

"We’ll be exploring the world of whisky, finding the very best examples from all four corners of the world. Our drams will introduce hidden gems you may not have come across from distilleries and bottlers new and old."

I was kindly send an initial bottle which came from an English distillery - Copper Rivet - this is their Column Still distilled Masthouse Malt at 45%. I'll review this in a separate blog. An unusual dram and an interesting start - I can't wait to see what they come out with next!

If you visit their website before the end of August you can get 50% off the September bottle.
