Mini-review : Caribbean delights?
A recent sample swap from @isnaeWinston delivered a @Balvenie Caribbean Cask to try.
So this is a 14yo Rum Cask finish whisky - let's see what it's like...
In the glass: Chill filtered e150 gold, swirls lead
to slow fat legs, initial nose brown sugar.
Nose: Brown sugar, honey and vanilla pop out of the glass with maybe a little coconut and banana? There's not a lot going on here.
Palate: Surprisingly thick almost syrupy arrival, lots of spice and honey. A little apple and pear with some icing sugar leaving a dryness in the mouth.
Finish: Spicy and slightly tropical - medium length.
Overall: Not inspiring really - there are some tropical hints but it doesn't match the notes on the Irish Rum finishes I tried recently.
