Fragrant Drops 23yo Port Dundas

Southport Whisky Festival in July this year gave me the chance to have a proper try of some drams from Indie bottler Fragrant Drops.

George & Rachel allowed us to try a few different bottles, my favourite and the one I immediately bought was a 23yo Port Dundas!

Fragrant Drops is a range of independently bottled Scotch Whiskies and other ambrosial libations brought to you by George & Rachel, of Keeble Cask Company Ltd. Based in Leith, they source casks from across Scotland and beyond, sometimes finish them and eventually bottle them when they feel they're ready to enjoy.

Distillery info:

2000 Single Grain

Cask #305542

23yo

Ex-bourbon hogshead

52.9% ABV

160 bottles

My thoughts:

Appearance: mid gold in the Glencairn, swirls cling as a thin line, bead up and fall as slow thin legs.

A lovely, now empty, bottle!

Nose: buttered popcorn, vanilla pods, rum & raisin ice cream and a lovely hint of caramel. There's some white chocolate, hazelnuts and a lovely lemon zest hint. If you like grain whisky this is a brilliant example. YUMMY!

Palate: thick sweet arrival - everything the nose promises is delivered with a mouth coating chewiness and perfectly drinkable ABV. The ice cream and white chocolate come to the fore now, the popcorn and citrus taking a back seat. Hints of orchard fruit and nutmeg spice come though after a little time and air!

Finish: lingering ice cream, white chocolate and a little dry spice.

Overall : as you can see from the photo this is the last dram from the bottle, it's not lasted very long because it is a fantastic dram, loved it at the festival and loved every dram from the bottle. It's an old grain, there's not a lot of complexity but there is a lot of flavour and mouthfeel. I need another like this!
