Virtual tasting: Wolfburn with Inverurie Whisky Shop

The -Pack gang are back! After a A.D. Rattray #RatPack tasting, we talked to the  Inverurie Whisky Shop about a 2nd Zoom Whisky tasting and they came up with a Wolfburn Small batch tasting - so the newly renamed #WolfPack were back in action!

The Inverurie Whisky Shop is a small shop in the town of Inverurie - great if you live near Aberdeen, but not too much use to those of us living in England or elsewhere. But they do a great line in both public and private tutored tastings.

Gulliver's Travels?

Everyone has heard of Gulliver and his travels when he was shipwrecked on Lilliput, but who has heard of Samuel Gulliver, a wine and spirits merchant who himself had adventures in distant lands?

Let's find out a little more....

Waterproof Whisky?

Some people like to add water to their whisky, I'm not one of them, but now thanks to MacDuff we've found out that whisky is in fact waterproof so all it will do is bounce off the bottle....

What am I talking about? Who knows! Ask my psychiatrist!

Batches : Kilkerran 8yo CS

Distilleries often release whisky in batches, the same name but subtly different recipes, ABVs, maturation typesptypes / etc. In this new, occasional series, I'm going to review a number of different Batches in my Side-by-side format to see if I can detect any differences, does each batch get better or are they to all intents and purposes the same?

This time I'll be reviewing batches #3 and #4 of the 8yo Cask Strength from @Kilkerran2004 distillery, what differences are there? In this case the are obvious maturation differences, so what similarities are there?

Side by side : Bruichladdich Rivesaltes Casks

Bruichladdich have a history of doing things a little differently, this applies to everything they do including their choice of casks. Their previous owner Mark Reynier had a wine background before rescuing the sleeping distillery and this led to the maturation of their spirit in some interesting wine casks, both the drams I'm trying here were distilled in 2007 and matured in Rivesaltes casks.

Let see how they compare side by side!

BTC1 #BlindDrams Tasting Notes

You may have followed one of my #BlindTasting or #MiniTasting sessions over the last few years - a group of friends who swap samples and try to discover what they are - sharing their thoughts on Twitter.

I've often thought about how this could be expanded to include more people and that's how the Blind Tasting Consortium came about!

Blind Tasting Consortium

You may have followed one of my #BlindTasting or #MiniTasting sessions over the last few years - a group of friends who swap samples and try to discover what they are - sharing their thoughts on Twitter.

The Blind Tasting Consortium is the logical next step in expanding our #BlindTasting group, we've always struggled to think of a way of expanding it and this seems like a good way of doing it.

Whisky from...? Sweden 2

If you start thinking about Swedish whisky it's usually Mackmyra that comes to mind first but there are a number of other distilleries - the most well known are High Coast (formerly known as Box before Compass Box got their lawyers involved) and the subject of this blog Smögen.
