The @Spirits_Embassy organise regular virtual tastings, with either their own or a distillery representative hosting.

For January this was a @FettercairnWh tasting hosted by Andrew Lennie @lennie_ba

Side by side: Five 10 year olds

There aren't a lot of distilleries sending out standard bottlings at 10 years of age, most leave it another couple of years for their entry level age statements.

In fact the Balvenie 10yo I'm trying here has been discontinued and replaced by a 12yo.

Batches : Bimber Oloroso Small Batch

Distilleries often release whisky in batches, the same name but subtly different recipes, ABVs, maturation periods etc. In this occasional series I'm going to review a number of different Batches in my Side-by-side format to see if I can detect any differences, does each batch get better or are they to all intents and purposes the same?

Whilst they strive towards a core bottling @BimberLondon continue to release single casks and small batches of ex-bourbon, peated, re-charred oak and Oloroso casks. Let's see how the Oloroso small batches compare.

Side by side: A trio from Ian Macleod's

A Christmas present from someone who knows I like whisky but doesn't know anything about whisky themselves - but it's the thought which counts!

Macleod's self titled "The Ultimate Single Malt Scotch Whisky Exploration Set" - let's see what it's like!

So far they've released two bourbon-style spirits - let's see what they are like.

Side by side : Oloroso and PX from Tomatin

Following on from my Oloroso & PX review of Paul John bottles here is a comparison of two Tomatin versions.

Like a number of distilleries, the Tomatin Visitor's Centre allow you Bottle Your Own whisky - these are nearly always single cask, cask strength drams, here I've got two to try!
