History

The Kingsbarns Distillery is located near the Kingsbarns Golf Links and was the brainchild of former caddy Douglas Clement. In 2009 he started raising funds to transform an abandoned farm, but soon ran out of working capital. In 2013 he sold out to the the Wemyss family, owners of independent bottler Wemyss Malts, but stayed on with the company and began the build. The distillery opened in 2014 and the first casks filled in March 2015.

Production

They use water from an on-site aquifer and barley from the local area for a 5 day fermentation in one of four stainless steel washbacks. A 7,500 litre Wash Still and 4,500 litre Spirit Still, built by Forsyths, distil the whisky.

Whisky

In Summer 2017 Kingsbarns released 1,800 bottles of  2yo Spirit Drink matured in
1st fill ex-bourbon barrels to their Founders' Club, available in 200ml bottles at 62.8% ABV.

In 2018 they released the first of cask strength five Founder's Club exclusives the Founders’ Reserve Inaugural Release again from 1st fill bourbon barrels, supplied by Heaven Hill Kentucky distillery. This time it was  full size 700ml bottle at 62.1% ABV.

Then in Spring 2019 they released their first public whisky "Dream to Dram"
at 46% ABV for £45 - comparable to Cotswold's first release. It was described as "a wonderful single malt that I think perfectly captures the Lowland style".

A few months later they released their first single cask bottling, again to Founder's Club members, 256 bottles from cask no. 360 at 60.1% ABV
