The Whisky Cellar @TweetTastings

@whisky_cellar chose @TheWhiskyWire to launch their 4th Batch with a @TweetTastings - those who were successful received a lovely package through the post.

Four bottles from the new range along with a a new Blend and a Single Distillery Scalasaig - let's see what the drams were like!

The Whisky Cellar is an Edinburgh-based independent Scotch Whisky bottler, Keith Bonnington and his team selecting casks from their private stock at the peak of their character.‍ Bottled as a parcel of single casks at a time, each individual series under the ‘Private Cellars Selection’ label is chosen to delivery a wide spectrum of natural colour, aroma and flavour.

My thoughts:

Appearance
: mid gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, bead up slowly and fall as slow thin oily legs.

Nose: Lemon zest, lemon curd, a little vanilla custard. There's a little orchard fruit and some pine needles. A little time and air and there's a  marzipan note - nutty almonds and sugar.

Palate: light sweet arrival, a little honey, syrup and brown sugar. There's a a little of the orchard fruit and lemon from the nose and then a big kick of cinnamon spice.

Finish: lingering cinnamon spice, brown sugar and lemon zest.

My thoughts:

Appearance
: light gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thick line, take a little while to bead up and eventually fall as slow thick legs.

Nose: Stewed orchard fruit, vanilla custard, some milk chocolate and desiccated coconut. There's a little of that syrup from a tin of fruit cocktail and some citrus zest.

Palate: thick and spicy to start, the ABV has jumped up from the previous dram. A lot of lemon zest, icing sugar covered dried pineapple and a little honey. Hot cross buns are a great shout - spread with lemon curd?

Finish: lingering lemon zest, honey and peppery spice.

My thoughts:

Appearance
: light gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, bead up and fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: damp wood, pine needles, vanilla custard. There's a little hint of mushroom and walnut. The Hot Cross Buns from earlier are back, toasted with lashings of melting butter!

Palate: Rum and raisin ice cream, a little coconut and some milk chocolate sprinkles. It's a little drying with a hint of peppery spice - YUMMY!

Finish: long dry vanilla notes with a little toffee and peppery spice.

My thoughts:

Appearance
: mid gold in the glass, swirls cling as a hairline crack in the glass, take an age to bead up and eventually fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: Orchard fruit, berries, a little chocolate and dried fruit. Not getting much of the maritime notes I'd associate with Tobermory... interesting. There's some honey, citrus and a lovely herbal note.

Palate: a little thin, but complex and flavourful - there's a big bite of ginger spice to start and then tropical fruit, berry cider and honey. The salinity missing from the nose is here in bucketfuls leaving the mouth dry and wanting more. Nice!

My thoughts:

Appearance
: dark gold in the glass, swirls clings as a very thin line, bead up to form an inverted crown and eventually fall as slow thin legs.

Nose: a little musty 2nd hand bookshop, dark fruit: dates, prunes, figs. Blueberry jam, salted caramel ice cream and some walnuts, YUMMY!

Palate: thick spicy arrival, the blueberry jam from the nose if back - very drying along with a huge bite of gingery spice. A little salinity suggests seaweed. There's dried fruit, liquorice and a little sour grapefruit. Yummy dram!

Finish: lingering blueberry jam, dried fruit and ginger spice.

My thoughts:

Appearance
: dark gold in the glass, swirls cling as a thin line, bead up slowly and fall as slow thin legs. Initial nose: bonfire on a beach, this is a Port Charlotte surely?

Nose: sweet peat smoke, maritime breeze, a little tropical fruit and some salted caramel. There's mixed fruit jam notes, hedgerow berries and a Elastoplast note!

Palate: thick fruity arrival, berries, dried fruit,  orchard fruit, tropical fruit - they're all here! Followed by a bite of ginger spice and a blanket of gentle smoke. There's a little salinity left on the tongue as the liquid disappears. Nice!
