London Distillery Company - Ten Times Around The Sun

"Ten Times Around The Sun" refers to two primary creative works: a debut album by indie band Shy Nature (2017) and a 10-year-old limited edition single malt whisky from the London Distillery Company (2026). Guess which one we're talking about!

The first ever 10 year old London malt whisky!

A ten year old release is a landmark event, Glasgow 1770 got there last year, Lochlea and Isle of Raasay aren't far off, London Distillery Company got there in January!

Whisky Maker – Matt McKay says:
"Bringing Ten Times Around the Sun to life began long before cask #007 was bottled. For this historic single malt, we carefully selected from the oldest surviving casks in our warehouse – those laid down during the distillery’s earliest years, before the unexpected closure in 2019. Each cask was assessed not just for its age, but for the flavour story it could tell – the unique balance of character, depth, and nuance that had developed over a full decade of maturation.

Ex-bourbon barrel #007 immediately stood out (and not just for its iconic number in our “Bond-ed” warehouse!). It had matured with grace, preserving the original distillate character while developing richness, complexity, and a bright, fruit-forward profile that made it perfect for this milestone release. In selecting this cask, we were looking for a whisky that could capture the full arc of TLDC’s journey – a story of ambition, resilience, and revival – but at its core, something that simply tastes incredible.

This landmark release has been crafted from Quench spring barley and has been matured in a single ex-bourbon barrel. Limited to just 220 bottles, it stands proudly as London’s first 10-year-old single malt whisky."

Distillery thoughts:

Over the course of ten full orbits around the sun, this London single malt has quietly matured - deepening in complexity, richness, and character. A decade of motion, transformation, and craft.

Ten Times Around the Sun encapsulates time, place, and pioneering spirit. It is a tribute to the capital’s distilling history and a celebration of the bold new future of The London Distillery Company. Bottled at 51.4% ABV

Nose: Bright and inviting with tinned peaches and sliced mango, layered with soft nougat, earthy dunnage floors, and dusty oak spices.

Palate: Bold and fruit-forward, offering a syrupy sweetness alongside piquantly spiced tinned fruits. Notes of milk chocolate and creamy cereal add depth and texture, whilst cask pepperiness provides warmth and lift.

Finish: Long and lingering, marked by the persistence of ripe fruit, fading gently into tingling Szechuan pepper spice.

My thoughts:

Appearance: Pale gold in the Glencairn, swirls cling as thin lines, take an age to bead up and eventually fall as slow thin oily legs.

Nose: lemon bonbons and icing sugar to start, orchard fruit that develops into a little tropical note. There's some trifle fingers, honey and a hint of ginger. There's a little dunnage funk, a dryness and a hint of spice. A little time and air offers apples and poached pears again with a little icing sugar, tinned fruit syrup, rum & raisin ice cream and a little milk chocolate.

Palate: thick, sweet arrival, loads of vanilla and honey with a bite of peppery spice. Mouthcoating to start, the orchard fruit and icing sugar from the nose comes through and then the liquid turns all syrupy as it's disappears. There's some dried fruit notes here - the kind covered in yoghurt. Some toffee sweetness and again with each sip a bite of peppery or gingery spice. YUMMY!

Finish: lingering honey, spice and a little stewed orchard fruit.

Summary: Shy Nature's Ten Times Around The Sun was quite good actually well worth a listen! But then it comes to Ten year old London Whisky there's only one place to go - The London Distillery Company. As a single ex-bourbon cask this is probably as close to distillery character as you are going to get and it's very good. There's typical vanilla and spice ex-bourbon notes alongside some lovely orchard fruit and dried fruit hints. Glad I bought a  bottle - there's not much left in it!
